  • His plan is Thatcherism on steroids ? thats it i am backing him ,loved Thatcher ,saved us from the loony Labour part ,that Corbyn wants to take us back to.

  • If you were an elderly Brit as I am, you would have lived through quite a few Labour governments and have seen their results.   I would not like to see another one in my lifetime.

  • Well if Johnson is "Thatcher on Steroids" then Corbyn is the "Spawn of Stalin"!   Corbyn wants to go back to the spiteful Socialist Workers Party ideas of the 70's - smash capitalism, smash

The problem is the leave campaign made promises that we unobtainable and contradictory  - to say they will deliver these promises means they have to lie to people and con them over what they are getting.

I think some of our politicians are seriously too stupid to understand this, while other are happy to be treacherous and mendacious if it keeps them in power. They will poison the well  of British politics for many years to come by using the populist inflammatory political language of will of the people, enemies, traitors and betrayal just to hang on to that power a little longer.

we will be paying the price for this for a generation or more .

My answer is above....king bong

have absolutely nothing to do with neither of them.... maybe they could be compared to Scotland who also wants independence and the UK not allowing it, but again apples and oranges don't mix

They had the vote and bottled it,so much for the uk " not allowing it "

Yes it would and we would not have signed Maastricht.

The light was dawning and that's the main reason she went. She might have fought but the EU was intent on Maastricht. She would not have had any of that rubbish.

Regardless of his politics, Corbyn came across as the only competent politician, the most statesman-like, at the last election.

An unpopular opinion here I fear,  but he is the genuine article a rare bird in these days of lies and manipulation.

She didn't go, she was kicked out. and yes, she would have signed the Maastricht Treaty, with amendments.

And how did the Treaty affect the UK? Hardly at all. The main outcome of Maastricht was the Euro, which we didn't join and never will. So perhaps you could tell us what part of the Maastricht Treaty damaged the UK?

Not joining the Euro

Like you I hated her and all the damage she caused to indusrial Britain and the working man.

However, her unerring resoluteness were both her strength and what finally did for her. The rot started when Howe resigned over her opposition to European Monetary Union and her poor showings in the polls, prior to the upcoming election, were her death knell.

Yes, she was kicked out but no, she wouldn't have signed the Maastricht Treaty as it was. Thatcher was booted out by her disloyal Europhile lieutenants who had realised that she was turning against the EU dream. Single Market yes but the rest of it no no no. Maastricht eventually passed through Parliament but only with a tiny majority and Thatcher would not have let it go nearly that far.

How did the Treaty affect the UK? The European Economic Community became the European Union and started the process of eroding nation statehood and national identities. It created the ‘European Citizen’. It was the start of monetary union. It led to the treaties of Amsterdam, Nice and Lisbon - all of them without a referendum or "people's vote" (whatever you like to call it) in the UK. And now we've finally had a referendum the remainers suddenly want another one. Typical.

But this is it isn't  it, brexit has inoculated the country to politicians lying. It's just accepted now

Brexit is a cr@p idea, sold to the credulous, angry & disappointed by spivs, chancers & over-promoted pantomime toffs who will never back down or apologise. Understand this and the complete chaos of British politics is, at least, easy to understand.

How as it eroded nation statehood and the British national identity? Big on rhetoric, absent with facts. Did we join the Euro or do we still have the £ sterling?

Try coming up with some facts rather than jingoistic nonsense.

I actually think that Brexit and the whole jingoistic, mendacious campaign of support for it has done more damage to  nation, statehood and the British national identity, not the mention the UK's reputation overseas, in three short years, than being an EU member for the last 45.

It's let genies out of the bag that are going to be hard to stuff back in again. A good third of the UK population now identify more as being European, than being British, 2 of the nation states of the union would prefer to be part of the EU than part of the UK, people are embarrassed about being British, our society is rent into two opposing tribes. We are no longer a nation unified by the thought of being British.

Britain has been left spiritually diminished by this fiasco and will probably end up physically diminished  too.

I really don't know where or even why you post such nonsense, have you got a link to verify your post. Is it something else you've uncovered from twitter? Here is a finding that disputes your accusations.

Britain feels less European than anywhere else in the EU

A new report, published today by NatCen Social Research, reveals that fewer people in the UK feel any sense of European identity than do those in any other country in the European Union. The report – ‘Do we feel European and does it matter?’ – is the second in a series of briefing papers exploring Britain’s relationship with the European Union in the run up to the referendum as part of the ESRC-funded project ‘What UK Thinks: EU’.

According to the latest Eurobarometer survey, as many as 64% of people in the UK deny that they feel in any way ‘European’. In contrast, just 25% of people in Germany and 36% of people in France feel that way.

When chaos is everywhere there is no longer chaos. I don't think probably any more, the UK is an almost certain bet for disaster capitalism plays. Just occasionally our Great Liar-in-Chief tells the truth...

When you can't accept that your question has been answered, you just ask another one, by jingo!
