This kind of thing isn’t news anymore just propaganda.
it would be great to read about an actual Thai criminal entity getting busted but I guess that would take actual police work.

Only the whitey (some) imagine that.

Thai people control Thailand. If thai people not want whitey in Thailand, we will do that. Sure.

But we not do it.

Welcome to Thailand. Enjoy your stay. (Just get the visa, will be ok)

This was made when Thailand was good and the people were happy.

Wow. A contingent! Swooped! And it's 'just' for 26 days overstay.

I don't see you bumbling gits to be this efficient and effective dealing with your own real criminals?

One person overstays for 26 days and it makes the new. <deleted>! It never ceases to amaze me just how dysfunctional Thai bureaucracy is; one hand welcomes tourists while the other one hassles them.

A contingent of immigration?? What the <deleted>!!

Treated like a criminal over 26 days.

Disgraceful stuff

In UK you can be treated as a criminal for tweeting something ‘hateful’ against Muslims.  Four policemen at 0300 breaking down the door such is the urgency of the situation. Thailand is very understanding by comparison.

It's sad to see what Thailand have become with theses stories of 'raids, busts and swooping' on people whose crimes are being overstayers, we're not talking about aprehanding arch criminals or knows terrorists operatives here, and it's disheartening to see that this good country with nice people has become and behave like a police state...

A police state with a military junta who no longer have a moderating influence to control their excesses.

No. Bored, yes, but it's the price you pay for a bit of "colour" in your news reporting. It's also the price you pay for not paying for your news reporting - amateurs in the kitchen.

Real news reporting is banned in Thailand thus the newspapers have to cover stories of no consequence  or silly sensationalism.

I've said this forever, they want whitey out so that the west doesn't invade to protect its citizens when the military clamp down. Now I'm in vietnam and it seems better here.

Vietnam! A communist dictatorship supported by 7 different types of security police?

It's not banned, just heavily discouraged. There are still a few brave souls out there (Pravit Rojanapruk for one), but the ranks have been thinned as the old stagers depart the scene (like Sopon Onkgara). Hardly surprising as there's a distinct lack of courage among the general population for standing up for their rights.

Name one country where you can overstay visa without a penalty and possible deportation?

America's catch and release policy.

n Australia it happens 10 times a week, but it is just immigration doing their job. I would have thought there was no need to do any media or a big song and dance for routine immigration work

You obviously haven't watched Border Security, where they catch overstayers and criminals on a daily basis.  On public display on TV.

And its a good idea to broadcast it to put the fear into overstayers. Lot of idiot  bashers have egg on their face claiming Thailand is the only countrty in the universe that repoerts cases via media..

They dont raid holiday makers. They raid people working illegally. Anyway, Australia is a civilised country where authorities have standards of decorum but Thailand is a draconian authoritarian police state run by a military junta. There is no rule of law thus the actions of the police has little or no moral authority.

NO! i abide by the immigration laws for over 20 years, as do so many other here why should the odd rotten apple make it more difficult for the rest of us ?

this sort of behavior is why the insurance and the money thing for retired people is coming in to play for so many expats. the comment you made is a lot more of a disturbing mindset.

Absolutely no evidence for this.

The insurance requirements are because many elderly ex-pats die in Thailand and some die after a stay in hospital and hospital bills are left unpaid , thats the reason for the insurance requirements , nothing to do with overstayers
