Death Certificate for British National - Translation in Khon Kaen

Featured Replies

I am a British national in my 70's and have worked lived in Thailand for almost 20 years.

Have been updating all documents where required for the situation that I should die in Thailand, as has nearly happened twice already.

My Will ( and funeral details ) were drawn up years ago, well before Thailand, and already placed with those concerned, with copies here.

As I live alone I have tried to keep everything as simple as possible.

I have a trusted friend here who is fluent in English, knows my family and has helped in the past and, is willing to deal with the necessary documentation this end.

So many governmental departments in the UK plus banks etc. require sight of an Original Death Certificate.

Does anyone know of a place in Khon Kaen that can properly translate ( certify ) the Thai Death Certificate in to English ?

I understand from others that have posted similar related questions that the British Embassy here is not much help.

Are there specific issues that others may have unfortunately had to deal with relating to a British Nationals death in Thailand ?

I apologise if these questions have been asked before.

I had a friend who met his demise some time ago. I contacted the British embassy and they sorted everything. Only took one phone call. I do know that the embassy is at best rubbish but at least they got this one correct. I believe they did the UK Death certificates. You could check with them if you need clarification.

If you have anything here Monies/property that would be almost impossible for any person in the UK to obtain. My daughter who is a solicitor in the UK has done my will and she has looked into all the problems money wise getting it back to UK. I don't have that problem as my banks are UK off shore. And everything I have here will go to my Thai wife of some 20+ years.

Just enjoy what time you have left, and don't panic it'll all be sorted in the wash.

Speedo1968,

I have sent you a private message, please check.

Ask your Amphoe officials if they have tbe capability to print death certificates in English as well as Thai.  My friend in Nikhom Kham Soi, Mukdahan passed away recently and the Amphoe printed out official copies in both languages. Or you can go here:

I am not impressed by the standard of English on their website.

The UK Embassy has staff who can and will do this. UK Embassy may also issue document that can be used in place of or as a UK death certificate -- I don't think a translated Thai certificate will work for that purpose.
