Fan failing...fixable?

Featured Replies

Hatari fan, very common and cost me 6-800 baht 5 yrs ago but now very slow to start up and i don't think the RPMs are up to snuff.

I guess some fault or failing in the motor due to age. Is this economically fixable, can i find the parts/DIY and is this motor a potential fire hazard?

Need best advice and thanks.

First of all take it bits, get some Singer oil ,and oil the bearings (2)

have you ever done that before ?, Ok then take off the Capacitor,

I think it's called, Like a little black box with 2 wires coming off

it, take that to Amorn shop and get a new one , install it and put

back together, should be good as new, have done same with several of mine.

regards Worgeordie

I have a few 10+ year old fans that occasionally loose their OOMPH.  I usually just take the fan unit off the stand, remove the shroud and blade and take it to one of the electrical fix-it shops that abound in most larger towns and cities.  Usually ready in a day of two, maybe pay 100-200 baht and it's good for another 3 or 4 years.  I'm no electrical expert but I think they lubricate it,  re-polarize the motor and clean out accumulated dust.

It is important to occasionally use an old toothbrush and clean out the vent holes in the rear of the fan.  A dirty fan blade also causes it to work harder.
