PHUKET: Tributes have flowed online for 35-year-old Canadian tourist Sean Cundell of Ottowa after he died in a motorbike collision with a tuk-tuk in Chalong last week.

Maj Ekkachai Siri of the Phuket Tourist Police confirmed that the accident occurred shortly before 1:30am last Thursday (Dec 12).

Capt Somkiet Sarasit and other officers of the Chalong Police arrived at the scene to find a red tuk-tuk on its side facing southbound at the entrance to Soi Gruwattana (also called “Jaofa 21”), located opposite the Family Mart near the intersection of Chao Fa East Rd and Luang Por Chaem Rd.

  • he had to be moving at a pretty good clip to turn a tuk tuk over.

  • No helmet No license  High speed 1.30am. Drunk?   RIP Sean

Damn that's harsh. I hope I die of a collision with a good ol' 36 tons trailer, not with a tuk-tuk. For Christ's sake.

The assumptions by @Yinn are all reasonable assumptions IMO. There was a "?" placed after "drunk".

Condolences to the family and friends of my fellow Canadian from Bytown (Ottawa).

With the tuk tuk on it side after the impact it seems it was not absolutely necessary.

Although i am not Sherloch I think that maybe a car could turn a tuk tuk at low speed, but a motorcycle surely not.

Read the link. No helmet

No thai licence

look at the photos.  the tuktuk just fell over itself. Witness said.

i used a question mark? 1.30 am on holiday.

Not injured.

Why do you mention no licence, it clearly states in the article that he has a Canadian licence. Tourists don't require a Thai licence !!

It say “driver license”= car license.

i mean he not have thai motorcycle license.

Sorry, I think tourist need a motorbike license for motorbike in thailand.

I not know that car international car license is enough. I wrong.

Kind of useful if it would be needed to be produced, don't you think?

Uk Licence   if  youve  passed the  UK  test allows  bike and car  licence   in one, no need for two separate licences

Tuktuk turned into the bikes path (info provided says was turning into) etc.. That much is stated.

No way of knowing if the bike was speeding, if the rider was drunk etc.. Appears the rider didnt have a helmet tho..

Driver's licence can be car, bike or truck.. The article didn't clarify which he was in possession of.

No it doesn't.. You have to do separate bike test..

Your both right. As someone with a full motorcycle licence.

You have to pass a car and full motorbike test to drive "big" bike.. BUT Chazar is also correct that both endorsements show on one licence in the UK.

He's correct. You only get one licence in UK.

All the categories you are allowed to drive are on the front of the licence.

And Tuk Tuk knocked over. Does suggest high speed, as in very high speed.

No but flipping a tuk tuk over with a motorbike, would indicate that 'some speed' was involved...

The LICENCE states on it you have passed  BOTH tests you DO  NOT need  two separate  licences like in Thailand
