Hi all...

I have a non-imm O visa that expires on Dec 29th which is on a Sunday and immigration is closed.

I would rather not get it extended tomorrow because i have a heavy day of plans. I was hoping to go on Monday morning first thing. I have been ringing the immigration centre and they are not picking up the phone.

Does anyone know if I can extend it on monday?.... What are the rules in this??

To be honest I am assuming the visa will be totally voided by Monday and unextendable, but I live in hope.

Thanks for any help.

If you do not do it tomorrow it will be the 2nd when you can apply for it. Immigration will be closed from the 30th to the 1st.

You can go on the 2nd to apply for the extension without paying an overstay fine due the office being closed when your permit to stay ends. After that day you will be fined 500 baht for everyday.

Are you extending a 90 day permit to stay from your non-o visa or a existing extension of stay? Immigration does not extend visas.

I am extending the 90 day O visa I got issued in Vientiane at the end of September.

Upon what basis are you extending your permit to stay?

Be sure your wife is with you and you have all the required documents when you go on the 2nd and go early in the day since it will probably be very busy.

Yes... My wife is always with me, she is super-prepared every time we go there and always has EVERYTHING in order. We always arrive at least 30 minutes before the office opens and we are always No1 in the queue and we always fly through the document check and i have literally in the past got a 1 year extension and been back in the car driving home at 09:30 am... That is our personal record, but we are usually done before 10am. ????

Thanks for the help brother.

why would you not get a 1 year extension based on marriage when you get your pension

Because there is an agent that only charges 14K for a one year retirement visa and will do all your 90 day reports for you. They only deal in retirement visas and all the hassle is taken care of.

It is obviously done through the back door, but I don't mind really, they are 100% genuine retirement visas.

Actually very good for people who don't have the cash in the bank for a 1 year visa.

through the back door is not 100% genuine, its an IO officer closing his eyes while the passport is stamped for a un-receipted fee

You are best advised to stick to a family based extensions. You can use your pension income as long as it’s at least 40K pm.

Dunno about that.... As far as I am concerned regardless of the process, it ends up in a 100% genuine visa.

that is indisputable.

until it isn't

a few years ago your passport going to the border without you for a stamp was 100% genuine, indisputable, until it wasn't

You have managed to take the word 'pedantic' to a totally new level.

Do you even understand what the word 'genuine' means?

It has absolutely nothing to do with whether a process is within the stipulated guidelines or a bit swervy with a bit of tea money here and there, or whether it eventually becomes a thing of the past.

All that is absolutely irrelevant.

I can go sit in immigration all day, run round to the bank, jump through all their hoops, or I can use an agent and do none of that, but at the end of the day, what appears in my passport is exactly the same. A 100% genuine visa issued, stamped and glued in by Thai immigration and everything logged onto the immigration database, and THAT is all I care about.

Please feel free to do all the running around yourself mate, I wish you all the luck in the world, but the truth is.... Your visa won't be any more genuine than mine.

Immigration doesn’t glue visas into passports.

They can (as a conversation) stamp a Non-O visa which is then marked a used, into your passport.

Immigration stamps extensions of stay into passports.

The stamp is genuine the issuing of it is by passing the procedures. Should the official doing that process be caught and made an example of (not very likely I grant you but possible) you will probably discover that you will have a much more exciting time than you want.

Not too long ago there was an embassy who “lost” a reasonable number of Visa stickers. The “lost” Visa numbers were invalidated.

Things change in Thailand and what works today may not work in the future.  Several times in the past there have been issues with fake stamps, agents taking 20-30 passports to the border to get stamped without the person being with them, etc.

If you can get the visa done correctly that would be best!

OP, I think some of the posters are trying to be helpful rather than critical. As one poster said, you could use your pension income as proof of income and then your extension of stay will be fully legitimate. If it’s insufficient, try to borrow the requisite amount of funds from family or friends.
I would not sleep easy in today’s immigration climate if I know that I am in some way playing the system.

I didn’t use an agent....the head of immigration just handled everything for a fee. They actually explained to me where the money went.....some to the head honcho from BKK, lunches for their staff, and I guess the rest went in their pocket. It still took half an hour for the processing to be done while I chatted to their daughter in English. This was a bona fide extension in all ways. Not a lot different to the guy using an agent.

As my Thai wife said, it is easier.

Did you meet all the requirements? Money in bank or monthly income etc? If so, why did you have to pay anything since you were already doing everything yourself.
is the immigration head going to be doing your 90day reporting as well?

Got a lot out of that 1900 baht.

Each time I went they threw up another roadblock. This was probably on purpose, and eventually it worked and I got <deleted> off with the whole process. The head officer wanted 15,000, but my wife pleaded small money and old.....me, not her. So the head agreed to 12,000 baht which included the 1,900 fee, so it worked out to a 1,000 a month for the year. I do the ninety day, which took 2 minutes earlier this month. You used to have to fill out a page, this time it was just my address. I understand Phuket has a drive thru now for 90 day reports.
