doctors are useless

I have found thai doctors to be useless,

   They prescribe anticiotics for everything. I had dry skin on my back, that was extremely itchy The local hospital doctor prescibed clocotimine for the skin and antibiotics, I left discugusted.  The next day I went to a private office and got skin moistuureiser and anti histamen for  infection, All was ell in 2 days,

   I have had a real problem with itching all over my head, This has been for over 2 years. I had shingles and thought maybe this was part of shingles. But now afterover2 years of scratching day and night I think it is something else,. The doctors simpley give me lotions taht are uselesss. I apply 2 hours later I apply again, I live to put creams on my itchs. I get no sleep. The itching keeps me awake all night and day.I am exhausted.

  Doctors just ignore what I tell them about the pain and itching and prescribe basic creams. that do  nothing for meI have decided if I cannot solve this problem in 3 days<snip>This is no way to live,I lay on my bed all day and try   to take care of my  problem. But all I can do is keep applying creams and lotions. I sleep very little, A half hour here  an hour here sometimes. Life offers nothing.

Slowly ! What Doctors  have you been to see? Skin specialists or  local generic hospitals and clinics?

I too have a skin problem that no  Doctor  in Thailand or  outside of Thailand has been able to identify and provide a cure.  It is  NOT  this or that or  anything that is identifiable.

Doctors  are  Technicians  of trained medical interventions. They are  not magicians.

Perhaps Sheryl will  step in and make some positive suggestions that  can help you  help  yourself. (!)

Sometimes some conditions are difficult to diagnose. I had an eye problem a couple of years ago and I think it was doctor #7 to diagnosed it correctly and treated it with success.

Look for a specialist, and maybe another specialist...

this could totally be a long-term effect of shingles which requires neuropathic pain medication

have you mention shingles to said doctors?

The itching on your head/scalp can be for a number of reasons and there is no one answer. It can sometime be a process of ilimination. I tried many things, from nizoral shampoo to various allergy tests and even stress can irritate the situation.

Betnovate steroid cream was also helpful in my case. But the more you get stressed about it the worse it will get. Food allergies or intolerances can also play a part.

You need a good assessment and then a process of illumination until you find what combination works in your circumstance and condition.

I know exactly how you feel I have been there ! It takes time there is no instant cure. Find a good Doc.

Many years ago, I had a nice older neighbor guy who was tormented by constant itching.   He had been to multiple doctors to no avail.   He was convinced he had some type of mite.   He lived in a small, simple house and had thoroughly cleaned and disinfected it numerous times, but to no avail.  

 

I convinced him to see a specialist and it turned out it was some sort of allergy.   I don't remember what it was, but he did get it sorted out.   He had spent years of increasing misery.  

It does have a cause and they can find it.

i say try and  find skin specialist in a major hospital. 

you may be in the long term for a solution, then again it may be gone before the sun rises.

all i can add to the other comments is.... possibly hives or stress. if stress related then obviously getting worse...

anything you can do to rule it out? a few days in chilly air con, are you on medication? are you taking supplements ,ie vitamins/ minerals. changed drinking/ smoking habits? everything ok with nearest and dearest? need a holiday somewhere with different air ie less pollution. water yr using to shower with contaminated ie salt/ fertilisers/ pesticides ?

i can empathise, had something similar for a few months, just suddenly disappeared.

ps, any change to washing powder/ soap/ shower gel / other related products...

You have not seen "all Thai doctors"  and they are certainly not all useless. But the best ones are concentrated in Bangkok and even there one must select with care.

 

Shingles can lead to a condition called post herpetic neuralgia and it can go on for years and requires different treatment than you have received so far.  It is somewhat unusual to have head itching as a result, usually it is pain or itching in the same area that you had the shingles, but it is not impossible. In any case what you need to see is a top, western-trained dermatologist.

Me too, as I had some sort of allergy going on for many months here and despite seeing three different dermatologists at two hospitals (many times I may add) I really got no relief. And allergy tests showed up nothing?

 

I literally changed just about everything in the house, from dish-washing liquid, to shampoos (many of them), to laundry products, to soaps and also had the aircon cleaned and disinfected, and I bought a vacuum cleaner to do all of the cleaning around the place.

 

I tried all of the lotions and creams and even ordered coal tar soap and shampoo from the Internet (a throwback to my younger days I do believe). And some of the antihistamine tablets I was given were so strong that I was walking around like a zombie.

 

I did eventually cure it and what did it for me I believe was the use of a shampoo by SebaMed which contained Ciclopirox Olamine, an antifungal which is not seen around much these days (apart from use in a nail antifungal capacity) along with the occasional washing of the hair and face with Phisohex, and getting onto a regular dose of Aerius antihistamine tablets, one taken at night only.

 

Thankfully I am okay at the moment and do not want to return to those nightmare months, so follow the regime above.

The worst doctor I have ever come across was in the UK. Didn't listen to anything I told him, wouldn't prescribe anything and a week later I was in hospital.

Yep, sometimes you just have to jump out of bed screaming, I am in charge of my life, nobody else!

 

Don't mean to sound patronizing but I've been in that situation more than once for various reasons including medical. Sometime the very act of thinking aloud, Fkuc all, I'm in charge here, can be transforming.

Try india   skin/allergy clinic hospitals,  good as it can get,,Calcutta good place to start       just look for the type of treatment you want   4 to 5  000 there return  

  Im off there soon,..skin hospital    tag /wart removal   but going bombay then down to Goa    cheep cheep  50 000 here  1500 there  colonoscopy/endoscopy    1700  all in

Due to corruption  and the appalling university education system, the Thai health industry is littered with untrained and incompetent practitioners. This is made worse as they are pretty much untouchable - the rigid hierarchical nature of Thai hospitals means that customer comeback on poor healthcare is virtually nil.

 

do NOT listen to "recommendations" by te general public as they are simply noyt in a position to judge whether or not the care they received was appropriate.

I agree most non-specialist doctors are useless and not just in Thailand.

 

Itchiness is usually caused by allergy, I have had several food allergy in the past eating some chemical-laced food in Thailand disguised as 'ice-cream'.

I had a similar situation with you in a western country. I told that doctor I am allergic to medicine A but he didn't listen and gave me a different brand of that medicine.

You don't seem to realise that doctors in Thailand are not tied to particular hospitals - they trade l from one to another and often have their own private practice as well. So you are just as likely to meet the same doctor at any of several hospitals.

Furthermore the fact that many or ALL are "specialists" in a particular field means that they frequently fail to diagnose correctly when confronted with a patient that presents symptoms outside their field.

One of te BIGGEST problems with Thai healthcare is that their is no GP system so patients find themselves wanf=dering from one specialist to another until on of them thinks he/she's got the answer.
