What are these 2 devices in the ceiling of the local convenience store?

Featured Replies

I was wondering whats the purpose of the 2 devices on the ceiling of my local convenience store?

Is the 2nd photo a backup light in case of power cut? Is it battery backed up? If so why does it need to be plugged in? Does this charge the battery?

thanks

Yes.

The first one could be a smoke detector but haven't seen one like that myself.

Answers are already given, but I will give additional information.

Photo 1:  A WiFi hotspot from D-Link (just the brand) accessing the stores intranet and possible internet too. Mostly closed circuit and only for staff.

Used for handheld (pda) scanners when the staff updating the stock and prices.

Sometimes the store gives guest access for customers.

At some shops you can see hotspots with a green logo (AIS) or red logo (TrueMove H) they can be used for customers too.

Photo 2: An backup/emergency light, working on batteries.

It is connected to the power for two purposes, one is charging and the other is for sensing when the power will be cut so that the light will turn on.

Keep an aluminum hat with you, in case the electric cuts and the neuralizer gets in action.

Until then you can use the hat as replacement for the plastic bags.

????????

One of them is emergency lighting to find your way out in a fire but for some reason Thais install them near the ceiling where all the smoke will be, maybe that is because they are so good at finding their way through the smog of pollution that to install them where they should be would mean that Thais would try to walk upside down.  5555

First one is an overstay detector the second one a biometric scanner to see if your TM30 is done.

You may wish to avoid this store if either is an issue.
