Popular Post webfact Posted January 17, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2020 Pattaya: Yet more adverse effects on tourism - but a "beautiful" Walking Street future awaits Picture: Manager Online The head of the operators' association of Walking Street, South Pattaya, told Manager that proposed infrastructure work in the heart of the city's lightlife district will definitely have an adverse impact on tourism. The electrical authorities are planning to bury unsightly cables and City Hall are putting in a large drainage pipe to allay flooding. Picture: Manager Online Naris Petcharat said that he has been heartened by news that the work will now start midyear rather than in October at the commencement of High Season. It is expected to be completed in three months. He said that operators would be affected but were steeling themselves in the knowledge that short term distress would lead to long term improvements. Picture: Manager Online Operators planned to cooperate with the work and were looking forward to a "beautiful" street in the future, he said. There were concerns, however, that the work on the two projects would not happen simultaneously. TaaSaparot Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I guess this an admission that Beach Road will not be finished by Feb. 2020 LOL They have only reached the Hard Rock so far. This Walking Street work will definitely drag into next years High Season. Still the Avenue Guys and their project will surely be happy?

Katipo Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 "... ... planning to bury .....***something something*** large drainage pipe... ***something something***" ....didn't catch the full sentence, but it seems they finally understand the true attraction of Pattaya ???? 1

yellowboat Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Was in Pattaya for New Years seeing a customer who was vacationing there. Everyone was so well mannered. Had a great time. Funny, the wires are not part of my memory. The main problem, from my point of view, in Pattaya is the filth on the beach and in the sea. If they want more tourists, allow for 60 day visa exempt. Many of my Thai friends also moved there, as it seems to have more opportunities than Bangkok now, according to them. It seemed freer than Bangkok. 1
Popular Post jaiyen Posted January 17, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2020 So they will bury the cables underground ! In Bangkok that means about a foot under the pavement and then never repair the pavement. Would be the same in Pattaya as they also work to Thai Standards !! 4 1 1 2

Popular Post thaipod Posted January 17, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2020 Another disastrous adventure for the family friendly resort. If it’s anything like the beach front upgrade their is going to be huge a disappointment 2 1

What does he mean by having an adverse impact on tourism? Why do it at all? Adverse to me means unfavourable, contrary to interests. Correct me if I'm wrong. Comments like that must mean they are really trying to kill off Pattaya once and for all. Good luck with that................... 2

Short time pain for long time gain. Adverse as in it will be a pain in the proverbial while the works are underway but long term WS will be more aesthetically pleasing. natway09 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 This happened in lower Sukhumvit, Bangkok & we all lost our cable TV. Popular Post jacko45k Posted January 17, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2020 (edited) There businesses are already reeling. Three months of reduced business will kill them off. Some may even be blocked off completely and get zero business yet still be expected to pay huge rents. As a tourist out drinking I am not going to attempt to get around any deep holes to buy 170 baht beer! Many businesses up Soi Siam CC and round the lake were killed off by such work on their doorsteps. Maybe they will move to The Avenue.. and by the way no sign of that yet! UnkleGoooose Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Allay flooding? This is Thailand. Allow flooding.
Popular Post KhunBENQ Posted January 17, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2020 Couldn't care less. Don't bother about WS for years when in Pattaya. Turn it to a family friendly entertainment park with entrance fee. Childcare service included. 2 1 3

Many other venues and places much better to have a good time. 1 1

Gecko123 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Huge sewer line trenches, seas of inebriated tourists, what could go wrong? 1
Beggar Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Perhaps a motivation for some bars to move to the new Avenue entertainment center. Should be finished by then if I remember correctly.
Jaxxper Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Beach road is a mess as you head down to Walking Street right now. I hope the scope of work being executed includes reconstituting the block paving on the walkways to how it should be. Right now its an accident waiting to happen. I hope the Walking Street cable/drainage work is a lot less disruptive than Beach Road. 1

Take 3 years Yep, especially if they do it the same as was done to a road near me. Two authorities dug up the same 500 meter (roughly) left side of the road no less than 6 times. First it was concrete sections of 'flood' drains, next came some plastic piping. Whoops, forgot some cables and found the plastic piping was the wrong type so all dug up again. All concreted over and in a week several parts collapsed; concrete flood sections were found damage, blamed on the on the 'plastic pipers', so up it all came again to renewed concrete sections. Plastic piping was reported damaged but left side of the road was left open for plastic pipers; several night accidents occurred so road was filled in then plastic pipers came and dug it up again. The first lot of heavy rain and flooding was worse than before; apparently an intersection was eventually found to be blocked by a 'concrete cap' (whatever that was) but not until half the road had been dug up. The road was dug up again a couple or three times but I didn't ask the locals why so I don't know why. Total time, about 32 months. Edited January 17, 2020 by TKDfella 2 1 2 1

I wonder who was the lucky friend of a friend who got all the copper cable Why on Earth would anyone use / pay for Cable TV when all entertainment can be had for free via the web? You download Popcorn Time and you suddenly have access to every movie and television show ever made in human history ( HD quality ) . If you want to spend $10 / month to watch movies with Thai subtitles, you can get Netflix. If that’s not enough for you, you can get AppleTV and Amazon Prime which also have Thai subtitles for their shows. If you absolutely “must” watch the news, go to YouTube, watch it for free. Any news that is relevant is on YouTube. Even Thai news. You don’t need any cables to use the Internet on the off chance that your building doesn’t have internet hooked up. You can go get an unlimited data package for your mobile phone for $560 baht / month, then tether / hot spot your mobile phone to all your computers and TVs. It’s super simple stuff. Nobody pays for entertainment or news anymore. Why would you pay for something that is free???? 2 1 2
sawadee1947 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Why not knock down this dirt hole Pattaya completely and build it up nicely again? 1 1
