And you are totally missing that huge amount of people that not agree with you. You might do better to reconsider and understand that you are over reacting. For every one of us who comes prepared there are thousands of Chinese and other travelers who don't. That's just the simple truth whether you like it or not. Further transmissions could be reduced if airport staff actually did what they claimed in the article.

You might wish that the officials and airport staff had actually done something to prevent the situation from escalating instead of lying to everyone like they always do. If you are scared from the scanner, go to the toilet and wash your hands afterward. Can't be so hard. Other people wearing masks is supposed to protect you, not them. Their coughing and sneezing ends in the mask.

 

If you are scared about the airport, don't travel there. You know since weeks that Corona is around ....

I cannot believe the I/O didn't blacklist you permanently and kick you out on the spot.

If you are postulating that level of threat then go full Wuhan and shut down everything then as there is no way humanly possible to make the normal airport environment and tourist experience anywhere near something that would satisfy your requirements.

 

There is a lot of historic evidence about viruses now to suggest even pandemics of very infectious entities such as swine flu do not kill extraordinary levels of humans who are healthy , have good diets and health care and it is a known level of risk that we all live with in our daily lives. I am sure a huge amount of this noise is Chines panic / corrupt city institutions rudderless at the emergence of a new virus threat that has been amplified to panic levels through social media. 

 

If we all calm down , take sensible precautions and carry on then we will all doubt be happier and this can go the way of all epidemics/ pandemics part of the human journey from cradle to grave. If you are old, infirm and/or immunologically challenged then nothing has really changed overall risk I would speculate remains pretty much the same.

 

That said I am flying to Swampy this afternoon from Hat Yai airport and we will do our best to keep safe and away from large crowds and will wear masks and gloves more for the feeling of being safer rather than any inherent statistical safety that my head says isn't really there. When we get there have booked a taxi to go back to our condo rather than take the bus that we normally would.

My jokey post about barricading yourself in your hotel room would seem to be the logical approach if he has the level of fear he expressed in his OP and subsequent follow ups. The psychological element though is real and my experience last night in Hat Yai surprised me as to how our brains work with the feeling element trumping the thinking bit. Seeing groups of mainland Chinese trolling around caused us some mild alarm and I can't see us staying here any longer than necessary as the joy has been taken out of the experience for the time being. And if we were to get ill I would rather be back at home in the UK than here.

Because for sure you ain't go it enjoy it here one bit and alarmist ratcheting of the news , running out of gel and face masks , and a daily diet of 'bad news' will only heap more misery onto your current state. And if you can't enjoy your holiday without being a constant state of fear and panic what's the point ?

The alcohol wipes are not difficult to carry on. They are $1. This is ridiculous, it is not difficult to carry some sort of hand sanitizer onto a plane. 

If the OP was my missus I would probably have to give her a slap to say stop the hysterics - though I don't believe in violence and I have never slapped her and she would kick me back if I did. Hard and in the groin.

Apart from the useless paper mask, actually a few mask types are efficient against the contamination with airborne droplets, for example three-layered surgical green or blue masks

this is the part i love.  i can't imagine demanding 'hand gel' from an immigration officer in any country around the world.  once you've touched all the stuff you don't want to touch, you just go to the toilet in the baggage claim and wash your hands.  i prefer to carry the hand gel but if i don't have any, i just proceed to the toilet and wash the hands.
