There have been times since thaksin was ousted when i truly think we as westerners are now deemed as a threat to those upper classes who DO NOT want this & next generations from wanting the traps and trimings that are begining to tune into there mind sets either by social media or westerners settling here and building "in most eyes" dream homes along with new cars bla bla bla , over to you ? i feel a chairman mao culture rising up more than ever .

There will no sleep loss if tomorrow all the foreigners in Thailand will pack up and leave, infect, there will a collective sigh of relief to see the backside of them, so in answer to your question, Thailand is very happy where it was until us came for pushed those poor lot to go think and act 20th century... 

I get what you are saying & have thought along similar lines, but non of it makes any sense at this time! unless they intend closing the country off - too late for that, or introduce more draconian measures to stay in power, for sure they are watching and listening! ever noticed just how well established the wifi internet system is here, huge investment that is never talked about.

I think lots of Thais welcome foreigners.

Obviously there are some who don't like foreigners - just like in many other countries.

 

Who of us has experienced hateful Thais? I remember one guy years ago in a food center who was shouting at every farang he saw. And everybody ignored him. That's the only hateful guy I remember right now. I am sure if there would be many of them I would remember many of them.

Total misunderstanding on your part and merely a projection. Consumerism is strongly protected and supported by “those who deem,” whomever you mean. Always has been, always will be. Nothing new, no change in that regard.

Thailand also welcomes rich Westerners--the richer, the better--and even provides a special Investment Visa for them. For the pikers, there’s the Elite visa, good for any age. Thailand also welcomed in more retirement money by making sure it’s real and verified and stays in the bank for longer periods.

Perhaps Thailand has grown a bit tired in the recent decade of the cheating and problems caused by Western riff raff.

 

What may be most irksome is the arrogant attitude held by the riff raff that they’re superior to the poor ignorant stupid Thais, imagining themselves envied for their wealth and, most laughably, for all the beautiful, highly desirable Thai women they attract—in their dreams. Fortunately a lot of the riff raff are now discouraged from coming here or are leaving with sour grapes. Quality’s overall much better now. Hardly a yob to be seen in Pattaya nowadays.

 

Me, I find Thai people quite welcoming and friendly. It's a joy to live here, really.

Please let them stay in medievil times. Thailand wouldn't be the same if I couldn't take a walk down to the inn and have those comley serving wenches attend to my every need.

They certainly go out of their way to make sure they can't think critically or question the higher ups.

Nah. Our contempt is for the army, the administration, and the elite. For me and many other it is not for the masses. 

 

We are a threat. We are teaching our women stuff they should not know about, in the leaders small minds.

  When one goes visiting a friends house even if that house is a mess one does not make a friend feel inferior because such friend might not want to be your friend anymore. 

And please don't be surprised if such friend does not want you in his house anymore.

I dont really much care what they do with THEIR country. They want me to come and spend money, OK, no problem. They want me to stay and spend money, clean the air. I care not a whit about their government except as it affects me. Annoy me, and Ill go somewhere else, like I just did.

 

And, when all else fails and the darkness approaches, Ill go find a warm place in the USA and end my days with strip malls, highways, clean toilets, expensive cars, dispensaries and sanitary chain restaurant food instead of Gods in every golden oyster, Orchids on my Balcony, Port and Buriram Football, ancient ruins, buddhas and spirits, cheap food and weekly bouts of the squirts to go with seeded weed, bad steaks, and skinny girls.

 

Its all good because I woke up today.

there seems to be a lot of foreigners here with chips on their shoulders, taking offense far too easily. personally i feel very welcome here, i always have. i have never had any issues with any immigration officer, i have good thai friends; male, female and families. i've dated many wonderful women. i've never felt any less than welcomed here and never experienced anything less than friendship.

 

i dont drink, dont go to bars, dont date or otherwise employ prostitutes or other sex workers. i have normal relationships and i have a very nice life here. if you're not happy and making the most of your life then you really need to do something about it.
