I am 50 with a Masters degree in Management & Business Administration and 12 years EFL teaching experience. I come from a retail/hospitality background in the UK and Ireland with 10 years experience there..

Is it too late for me to consider a career in Oz? Would I be denied a visa?

Many thanks in advance.

First I think you have to ask for a working visa, as the Australian immigration do not take kindly to tourists turning up looking for jobs .Certainly get the appropriate visa first. I suppose that’s what this thread is all about.

Hello thequietman

Thank you for your question.

Unfortunately once you turn 45 Australian Visa options for permanent residency through work become very limited.

There are always options for temporary work visas of up to 4 years based on certain occupations, and you will need a job offer and employer to sponsor you, as well as meet any other relevant criteria.

For general visa information have a look at https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia

The working visa I refer to there is more information here https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/temporary-skill-shortage-482

Otherwise there are other options related to investment and business or family, however you will need to qualify in each case and these will depend on your personal circumstances.

Kind regards,

I want to take my Thai partner to Australia for a holiday for about 4weeks. She farms land near Khun Han, Sisaket. Very little in the way of savings but owns the land she farms. I've heard getting a visa is difficult, is this so?

Hi AboutThaim

Thanks for your question. Visas are not difficult if you meet the criteria and provide a clear and solid application. Most people make simple mistakes which decrease their chances of success that can be easily solved.

Getting a Thai visa is based on the individual applicants overall circumstances, and everyone is different. It basically fits into three simple areas - 1) the individual, their ID documents, health and character. 2) the reason for the travel, and if it makes sense for their circumstances, and 3) will they return to Thailand.

How you put together the application makes a huge difference, and what supporting information you provide. See my article on 7 Tips to Getting a Visa The First Time.

Given she owns property is a very strong plus! However other factors will include the length of your relationship, where you are normally based (Australia or Thailand), your financial position etc. Always make sure you provide evidence to support any claims you make.

If in doubt consult an expert - we are always happy to help and offer a free initial call to help you out. We wish you success!

Kind regards

All irrelevant now with the virus situation. Only aussie citizens and permanent residents can enter.

Hi emptypockets

Actually at the moment anyone with a visa can enter Australia as long as they have compelling and compassionate grounds, and we have helped a few people back based on family circumstances.

The latest government advice is here and this is updated as needed - https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/news-media/current-alerts/novel-coronavirus

There is a form that needs to be completed and approved before travel.

Kind regards

Hi davemos, you just need to apply for a subclass 155 Resident Return Visa. It depends how much of the last 5 years you have been in Australia as to how long the visa granted will be. If over 2 years you will get another 5 years, if less then normally 12 months.

If you have not been to Australia in the last 5 years you may want to get some advice or help preparing the application as it becomes a little more complicated.
