My ext of stay based on marriage is due May and I just put in the funds > than 400,000. I will subsequently be a month short on the 3 month requirement. Is this going to be an issue. Im on good terms with the immigration officer at the front desk that Ive been dealing with. Hes very friendly. Can they bend the rules with this? If not what are my options

thanks

It is my understanding (happy to be corrected) that if this is your first extention on this basis, its only required for 2 months prior.

Is this the first or is it an ongoing thing ?

It is has been 2 months for every extension based upon marriage for over a decade.

The 3 months or 60 days for the first extension was for retirement extensions. For a year now it is 2 month for every extension as well.

In a way it is 3 months.

2 months prior to applying and then they ask you to bring your bank book with a same day update the day you collect the extension 30 days later.

That doesn't change the fact it's still 2 months prior to the date of application.

If the OP deposited the funds on March 2nd, then he can submit his application May 2nd.

No they don't.

Not to my knowledge anyway.

Your only under consideration after the application. Many offices recommend you wait until the extension is approved and issued before withdrawing the 400K.

Rubbish. Why would they do that?

Never wanted for 15 years.

Applied 2 weeks ago and no mention of this.

Why?  Because they resent us, and for not using an agent.  They don't do it at all offices.  Personnel in some offices and entry-points seem friendly and happy we are following the rules.  Others clearly wish we were gone.

The same is true of amphoes - depends on who is running the shop.  I discovered this when trying to find one who would let me marry my Thai-wife - from being obviously "disgusted" at several, to friendly and helpful at the one where we were married.

Good point. We are not very popular in the land of scowls. Are we?
