Yeah, Kuwait, a real leader in the world, and Qatar too! I doubt the world should follow the lead of these two little Emirates.

What makes you think the situation in Thailand is not as reported? Are you in Thailand right now or watching the television? You are fear mongering.

Oh great, have a flight soon ex BKK on Thai,  and last time it was filled with Indian tourists.

I have watched a few videos taken in Pattaya, and all from the last few days.  Almost no one there is wearing a mask.  Maybe they think they are immune.  Now I admit, the videos focus on hookers and hoodlums but if you think you are going to go there and avoid the virus, I'm going to guess that our next outbreak will decimate Walking Street.

Good luck.  You'll need it.

Same in Vietnam. The numbers, if you have confidence in the government aren't bad relatively speaking. I was surprised to see while doing errands, commuting etc that almost no tourists are wearing masks. Honestly, people seem a bit flippant about this who are tourists. It's starting to happen though in parts of the North for sure and now quietly in Ho Chi Minh guest hotel areas that "Sorry, we're full" is the new mantra. They don't want the "touring" crowd to come in and make their family sick or their long time guests.

Europe is going into lock down - not just Italy. Listen this is serious as Italy, France, UK, and the rest of Europe and now America have deaths every single day! Never mind advanced S. Korea or Japan. These countries have advanced care for serious acute Pneumonia ( which this disease is). It kills the over 65s in higher numbers than most others although Italy now reporting more fatalities in younger groups. Most dying in Britain and USA are senior citizens. Our TV news is dominated with coverage from specialists predicting rapid growth. Avoid very big crowds.

Everywhere in the TV media in colleges, schools, work, public transport we are told to wash hands repeatedly and not touch face.  Please do not assume Thailand has just been lucky. This is now the most serious emergency since whenever. Stock markets collapsed because the enormity of this disease is not just well organised China. Its multiplying because so many think its somewhere else. Thousands and thousands are very ill.  In advanced nations all the top main hospitals are struggling to cope.

These countries are of course testing anyone who has be close to victims. Listen the countries which test most like Korea and UK will  bring it down by isolation. If no or little testing being done by public services then the disease is hidden and all top medical experts fear for that scenario.

Relatively harmless if you're under 65.  Far less fatalities than a garden variety flu.  If you're unlucky enough to get it, ride it out and steer clear of the elderly, who are at genuine risk.

It seems you and many others don't understand the main reason for wearing a mask. Just because people are scared s**tless in BKK doesn't mean we have to be in Pattaya/Jomtien.

You may want to check the new law Thailand just passed about holding planes on the tarmac, it would not be nice having to sit on a plane for an unknown time.

You also may want to post a link to that new law.

You seem like a worrier. Stay cool and ride it out, unless you're 70+ years old and weak. I know some old guys living in Jomtien, they don't worry because it doesn't help.

Are you running a fever.....because I sure detect signs of delirium.

Why do you need to travel to Thailand to indulge in a man's favourite pastime?

Unless your supermarket has a had a run on Kleenex. ????

Yeah, you maybe right, ALL morons come only from the US (including me), but at least we don't eat BAT soup or start pandemics, but we are responsible for being the morons of the world and failing at other things....so now that we established that, what's your claim to fame...you the second coming of christ...the oracle...probably!  You got it all right...good for you!

IF things are so great and safe, why did Thai PBS report that Thai health officials are investigating 300-400 suspected covid-19 infected per day?

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/300-400-suspected-new-coronavirus-infections-investigated-in-thailand-every-day/

A suspected case is not same as a confirmed case. 300-400 investigated a day is not much. That's one large airplane or 2 smaller. There are ~69 million people living in Thailand + tourists and expats. Don't believe everything you read in Thai newspapers or online.

It appears YOU have failed to be educated.  N95, if worn properly, ie fitted, will NOT stop covid.  WHY? Because COVID is 0.1-0.2 nano particle SMALLER in size...N95 is for 0.3 and greater, but will not hurt to wear it PROPERLY.

Second, WASH the hands and keep away from face.  Get educated rather than focusing being a keyboard warrior.

"You have more chance of jumping from your hotel balcony then catching the corona virus."

i dont think so. 60 to 70 % of the population may be infected, if 1 % dies that means about 50 million dead worlwide in about 12 to 15 months, after 3 waves and before there is a vaccine. About the same as with the Spanish Flu a hundred years ago.

In 1918 they didn't have a clue what they were dealing with. That's why so many died.

Pattaya is slow. The citizens need your support. You you will be a star. The traffic is thinned out, some bars are closed or closing early. I don't see any panic about the virus. Don't come by way of a stopover in NE Asia. Singapore, Manila, KL should be OK. Fewer flights canceled. A 30-day extension at 1900b is practically a gimme, unless you are on a persona non grata list. Lots of money exchange booths open. Best if you know departure date so you will have a required ongoing flight and not pay to change dates. You can have a flight that leaves beyond the first 30-day visa exempt period: tell them you will get thr 30-day extension, in the unlikely event you are even asked. Been doing this 22 years with no problem. Have $800 cash on you just in case that comes up. Only exchange enough at the airport for transportation to your destination, plus a few hundred pocket money.

Arrive during daylight hours and take the bus to Jomtian for 130b. I know, you have been there before but it took me years to dig up many of the travel secrets before the internet and there might be a nugget in here for some reader.

My guess if you do a little bit of digging and have a few powers up top.  Singapore has 3 times the number of Thailand and followed up last with free tests your 4 sleeping partners and your pet parrot with which passed away like Polly in the monty python skit many a year ago.  It closed its border to Chinese, fined those breaking quarantine rules et al and moved at lightning speed because it has intelligent people running the show.  Here is one big lie (not rocket science)... why are viral pneumonia infections going to the moon In Thailand I wonder??  <deleted> wake up.....Thailand cares about money only.. not public health.  The article below should show you Thai testing at its very best.....

Which part of Thailand seems to have been hit the hardest?

50 people infected in a country of 69 million people and you are asking about what area "hit hardest"

Cannot make sense of that question

Obviously, travelling here is where you will be at risk.

Airports, airplanes, transit airports, lines at immigration, are where you need to be careful, covered, and clean, and follow rules about touching surfaces and face, etc...

In Pattaya and Jomtien,  there were quite a lot mask wearing scene during Chinese New Year period ( jan 25, 2020 )    to the end of February.  Some  7-11  employee had mask on.

But the last 2 weeks,  there was very few face-masked around,  and infrequent to encounter one.

Here the Thai are very concerned lack of business or baht coming or no food on the table.

Coronavirus is not on the highest priority.

Thai officials is of course in disarray and confusion and harmful in the handling of Coronavirus time and again in past 7-8 weeks.  Never mind about it.

It is plain luck  ( actually weather )    on the side for Thailand as well as other SouthEast Asia countries that the region is not so badly affected considering these are the nations as well as Japan and S Korea had taken the most tourists during Chinese New year period.   7 weeks had gone by since Chinese New Year.  Did all your pessimists and  pretty nervy type see the Thai and tourists sick and even dying all over the place in Thailand and neighbor countries ?

It is a definite concern here that not enough testing has been done, anyone know the figures here in total?

I can't see people self isolating here, that's a big risk, people will continue going to work because they need money

I agree Thailand is a gossipy place but the computer crime laws are also strict and ruthless, the government has made clear it will use these for spreading rumours about COVID. Rumours without fact are dangerous but it also stops any genuine concerns because of the fear of unjust prosecution.

My personal belief is that Thailand cases can be found in the published figures reported in the PUI daily. The problem being that no mention is ever made of who has been tested positive or negative. So a best guess for me would be in the 1000 up range who are positive and have been identified but who knows how many more walking around.

3000 cases of 'viral pneumonia' probably gives you a massive hint?

They dont have much of a clue now, knowing what a virus is will not suffice. Thailand e.g. claims that Tamiflu helps but in Germany it was shown to be ineffective.

Actually the percentage of fatalities was much higher because much fewer people were on the earth. So any clue might just balance this out.

The Self-Quarantine Manifesto

With no well-studied treatment and a viable vaccine still being out at least another year, the only effective way to keep the coronavirus epidemic at bay is to give the virus less chances of spreading. The following list of actions, ordered from easiest to implement to most effective in the fight against the pandemic, should serve as a set of loose guidelines for people who wish to join the movement and take action, where the people in charge continue to neglect.

Don't panic, but be alert.

Wash your hands often and practice good cough and sneeze etiquette.

Practice social distancing, no hugs and kisses, no handshakes, no high fives. If you must, use safer alternatives.

Do not attend concerts, stage plays, sporting events, or any other mass entertainment events.

Refrain from visiting museums, exhibitions, movie theaters, night clubs, and other entertainment venues.

Stay away from social gatherings and events, like club meetings, religious services, and private parties.

If you can work from home, work from home. Urge your employer to allow remote work if needed.

Do not use public transportation if not absolutely necessary.

Replace as many social interactions with remote alternatives like phone calls or video chat.

Do not leave your home if not absolutely necessary.

I completly agree with you , jacko45 isn't really taking it seriously , up to him . If the nr of infections in holland is already up to 300 and 2 deaths in a short period of time , does jacko really think that thailand that only bankok already has almost half of the people as holland has in the whole country , has only 50 infections he should be dreaming on and keep on visiting closed spaced places with many people in it at his own risk . I think the nr of infections and deaths related to covid19 is deliberatly kept low because even now the nr of visitors to thailand is already down by 50% or more , what do you think will happen if they put the real nr's out there ???? but don't worry , soon s... will hit the van and then they cannot denie anymore .

The truth, as close to it as one can hope, is hidden in plain sight:

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/situation.php

As of March 10: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/file/situation/situation-no67-100363.pdf

In this https://bbc.in/2Q5zq9G report by the BBC, in which WHO has escalated Covid-19 to "pandemic":

Quote

"WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the number of cases outside China had increased 13-fold over the past two weeks."

That is a rapid increase. Seems to me that even the "situation report" is not fully presenting the true situation. But, possibly, Thailand has a different profile of virus survival and transmission than these other countries. Only time will reveal the truth of the matter, and in the meantime people should take prudent measures.
