Drugs suppression police in Pattaya have announced the arrest of a 33 year old Russian man who fell on hard times and started mixing up his own drug concoctions that he would then sell to compatriots in the pubs and clubs of the resort.

At a rented house in South Pattaya he mixed chalk with Ritalin and colors to make a variety of bogus party drugs from ice to ecstasy to cocaine.

He said it was his own recipe and he got the Ritalin from a pharmacist whom he bribed.

Pattaya Update News said that police became aware of the activity of Maxim K., 33, who was staying in a two story house at Pattaya Lagoon in the Land Department Office soi.

An undercover officer secretly befriended him and an attempt was made to buy cocaine but the sting failed. The suspect was being cautious and would only sell to fellow Russians.

So surveillance was undertaken and when he was seen acting suspiciously with a Russian woman the officers had probable cause for a search and went to his house where a second Russian woman was also staying.

There in an upstairs bedroom they found an unspecified white powder, coloring agents and lots of pills in small ziplock bags. Out back was ganja smoking equipment and plenty of discarded spliffs that contained the remnants of marijuana.

All three suspects were taken in for questioning. Maxim soon admitted his involvement in selling drugs.

He said that he used to sell cocaine to Russians he met at entertainment venues in South Pattaya but since the Covid-19 crisis his supply of customers had dried up.

So he decided to start cooking up his own recipe for drugs made from chalk used for blackboards, colors and methylphenidate.

This is more widely known as Ritalin, notes Thaivisa, and is a front line treatment for ADHD but also used by party goers as a stimulant.

Maxim told the drugs police that he got the Ritalin, usually only available on a prescription, by paying off a pharmacist in Jomtien.

He would then carry the drugs he made to discos and pubs and sell for 3 - 4,000 baht a gram or at a price according to what drug the customers wanted.

He clearly made several bogus drugs in his house.

He was found to be on overstay and was detained on that while the inquiry is widened.

He told the investigators that the Russian women were not involved in any way but they are under investigation as are possible customers and others associated with the arrested Russian.

Don't know about getting whacked on his concoction but I bet they sneezed their bloody heads off with blackboard chalk in it ..

Not a tourist, he was living and working here.

He's referring to his would-be customers.

erm and the pharmacist?

Only evidence would be the say so of a Russian drug dealer. Not sure there'd be much of a case there. They'd have had to camera up the Russian drug dealer before he went to the pharmacy.

perp probably extrapolated(glorified) his impression of a typical tourist/pharmacist transaction...

 - that of a falang Joe Bloe walks in, and only has an emptied falang pharmo labelled medicines box that he had brought from back home and has used up since arriving in LOS...

Then walks out with new batch of the medicines, and gets to keep the same empty box, for next time

Was his police record in Russia checked, before being let in to Thailand?

Do you expect they do that with every single tourist?

Silly question but what is his charge? Selling fake illegal drugs ?

so the crime is drugs were fake? Can not charge him with selling actual drugs , as it was not.

Time to rethink this Visa exempt travel nonsense. Police certificates should be required.
