Covid-19: Post Office forced to respond after social media thinks customs officers are looking for face masks

The Thai post office has been forced to issue a statement after Twitter users shared a picture of customs men opening lots of packages at a post office. 

 

Netizens thought they were looking for masks that might have been sent by people to needy relatives or for other reasons. 

 

They were also concerned about their packages that were being ripped open. 

 

The post office said that the place concerned was the Rong Klua Market post office in the border area of Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo. 

 

It was normal activity - under supervision - of the customs officers there to intercept parcels that were suspicious. 

 

The customs officers were within their rights in this special area.

 

If illegal items were found the parcels were put aside. Parcels opened for inspection that were deemed to be alright were reassembled and resealed and sent on as normal. 

 

No one was looking for masks, they said.

If they were looking for masks, they are in the wrong place, get down to the docks, millions being shipped out, supposedly with the correct paper work.????

 

Almost all packages I receive have been visible opened and inspected.

 

sometimes things fall out , break and are put back in the box without further ado and, in the ensuing commotion, sometimes not all items are put back, or end up in other parcels.

 

X-ray ? A bridge too far it seems !

Yeah just tell him to go down to the dock all the rich people are shipping them out for big profits TIT

Tell you who will be making a fortune - the people collecting the excess sanitizer left in the bins for not being able to take liquid on the planes !!

They are talking BS. They where looking for face masks and did take them. Friends of ours who tried the other week to bring face masks in over the border in a couple of vehicles had them confiscated by customers at Sa Kaeo. They where bringing them in for friends and local hospitals in their community. The same friends tried again to get them into Thailand by post, this is them being confiscated again by customs. Our friends are not in this for profit, they are business people who are trying to help their community and local hospitals but the government don’t give a damn. The customs are selling them onwards again and giving kickbacks to those on high. Distrusting POS the lot of them. 

Well this is going to be interesting when the Amazon order of 100 basic surgical masks I ordered weeks ago finally arrives. At least they do refunds.

We ordered masks and they arrived intact.  

I ordered a teeth/smiley face mask from China and it arrived.

Does not matter what they are looking for. Customs have the right to search any international parcels for whatever reason they wish. Same as any other country.

I got a 10-pack of N95 masks thru the international mail a couple weeks back, and the package appeared to have arrived unmolested.
