How would getting married qualify him for a work permit?

A non-Imm O visa for marriage would make eligible for a work permit, but he would need a job to qualify for one.

Hi,

If you would really love to stay, this is the model I see applicable in your case:

1. Get married here in Thailand - this will solve your visa i.e. you will have to leave the country every three months which will cost you six to seven thousand baht or you will need 400 000 a year to show in bank and in that case you won't have to leave the country and have these costs

2. Google those platforms to work online such as Upwork, TopTal etc. Or teach English or Spanish online

But keep in mind, it is not gonna be easy. As the others wrote, it is very unstable here and you should really spend more time with your girlfriend to get to know her better. It is even unstable for Thais. I live in Bkk and my wife's sister and their cousins are getting their salaries decreased due to the crisis. They cannot accept these offers due to everyone here is in a huge dept so they are opening some food selling businisses etc. Another aspect to look at is that if you will want to get married, they will want dowry money from you. Investigate a bit more and especially if you decide to go with the model mentioned above.

Good luck mate anyway!

Regards

Stay in Argentina mate.

if your aspirations are to work in a 7/11 here then you are in for a rude awakening.

What a helpful post!  Recomend that you convert your degree to Hotel Managment and Hospitality.  Once you are qualified, you could then apply for a position in a Hotel in Thailand.

BUT: (for personal reasons), I'm not picky about the jobs I could (legally) get in Thailand. What I'm saying with this is:
-If I could work in a 7-11, I would do it.
-If I could work as an "cook assistant" in a street food "restaurant", I would do it.
-If I could work as a waiter in a restaurant, I would do it.
-If I could work cleaning, I would do it.

-ANY (legal) Job would do it for me. No, I mean, seriously, any job would do it.

That is, I'm not worried about having a "good salary" (remember: my salary is already quite lame and sad, while working in a "good and clean" office, which I'm tired off, the office I mean, but that's for another post: I don't to bother you all more than I'm doing already).

So that's all, I (tried) to make it the shortest I can (trust me, it's very difficult for me to create short posts in forums. In The Wall Master)

Any advice, memory, story to tell, rant, insult, or whatever you have that could enlight me or confirm what I already know, will be infinitely appreciated.

All the jobs you are mentioning, you can forget, they are reserved for locals. However, you might be able to get a job as English language teacher in a school – but native English speakers seems to be preferred, and you mentioned that your English is not that good – but that will require a certificate of which I'm not aware of details (others might explain it).

Apart from marrying a Thai, and having the source of income for extension of stay – i.e. 40,000 baht a month from abroad or a 400,000 baht cash Thai-bank deposit – your only options are:

Work permit due to (highly) skilled labor; i.e. finish your education, before coming.

Education visa, but it's getting more difficult; normally based on study Thai language, but could be studying IT or main-frame, if available, at an university, which will require some money for tuition fees and living expenses.

Elite Card, but that require some level of wealth for both visa and stay.

Unfortunately difficult for me to see positive options for you.

Everyone needs a job to get a work permit, marriage is irrelevant, unless you're saying that single people cannot get WPs.

Marriage, a non O extension of stay, based on that will get you a work permit......after that; up to you.

Think carefully & good luck!!

No it won't! A non O extension of marriage is reliant upon him showing he has sufficient funds in the bank or sufficient income. There is no automatic "work permit". He could get a work permit but would need a job offer for that.

At his age and lack of qualifications and a non Thai speaker - gonna be few and far between.

Unless he has substantial funds to support himself and possible wife, then he's dreaming. Facing reality is better.

Another person with a high school degree that claims to be doing important programming work ("mainframe"), i.e. Digital Nomad.

Easy!  Just get busy mining Bitcoin.  Apparently there are a lot of people in Thailand who need untraceable currency, due to their, uhhhh...chosen profession in the Black Economy. ????

You dont just get a work permit like that! Yes, you can work on a Non-O, but you still need to qualify for the work permit and the company that hires you need to qualify to get a work permit issued.
