Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang has urged people to dispose of used face masks properly by using red bins which are designated for hazardous waste.

“Used face masks must be put in a plastic bag fastened with a rope or rubber band before putting them in red bins to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said. “This also includes facial tissue used to wipe noses or bodily fluids.”

The governor advised separating wastes in different bags in case there are no red bins near your area. “If possible, put a label or sign on bags containing hazardous waste so that garbage staff can dispose them of properly,” he added.

“Hazardous waste in Bangkok will be separated and disposed of in incinerators at specialised facilities in Nong Khaem and On Nut districts.

Aswin also added that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has provided red bins for hazardous waste at various locations throughout Bangkok including district offices, public health offices, hospitals, city hall, and public parks.

  • I'm sorry, but.... do they really think anyone will 'put a label or sign on bags containing hazardous waste'? From what I've seen, if they're lucky used face masks will be dumped loose in the nea

shhhhhhhhhhhhh

I was going to start a thread about this, but no need to now.

Yes, all the single use plastic bags have disappeared, but now I see an increasing number of masks and used tissues in our soi. Maybe some are accidentally dropped, but the tissues must have been thrown there.

Disgusting habit!

I really have to keep my eye on my dog who just loves playing and chewing that kind of thing.

Do you really think the Thai will dump their facemask after use? Have you seen the queue's to get 4 masks in the Makro? 100 meters long, all days long.....????

I see a looming exodus from the Nong Khaem and On Nut districts...

Yes, exactly. People are using them again and again. Dirty, dirty, masks again and again. Defeats the purpose. I am now facing the need to wear a mask to go shopping so where to buy enough masks so I don't have to follow that filthy dangerous habit of being forced to wear masks again and again only for conformity and theater, certainly not for health. It's OK with me if we're all forced to wear them all the time but making them widely and available and cheap so we can use them only ONE TIME as they're supposed to be used.

Didn't  know you worked at a hospital, and deal with infected patients. I'm impressed.

The idea that you don't need a mask, was disseminated because their was shortage in masks,  in Euro land and the US. The masks they had were needed for medical personnel. What better way to do that than tell the peanut gallery, well they're not all that effective.

Just noticed the third article, I have ran across, regarding how that message, played against us. Look it up - you have the time.   knock yourself out.

Are they leaving On Nut as that's where they think the Health Minister lives?

In our Neighbourhood you would be lucky if any rubbish makes it to a bin...........regardless of colour.......... thrown from the motorbike into the nearest hedgerow is perfectly satisfactory.  This man really is a complete W****er, who is totally out of touch with the Country he is supposed to be taking care of.

That has made me think about where you can guarantee to find a rubbish bin - outside every 7 Eleven.

In a way that could be bad news, because if everyone thinks the same then all 7 Elevens could be full of discarded face masks.

There again, I can't see that many people 'thinking too much' about it, and coming up with the same idea.

Being 'a complete W****er' would that involve making a deposit in the hazardous waste bin?

Going along similar lines, there are certain people making the headlines, ( who shall remain nameless for obvious reasons here), that should be banned from ever breeding.....

Why not teach people to stick their masks in a microwave on full power for 2-3 minutes.this will sterilise them and then can reuse them and there wouldn't be a shortage of masks.

Plastic bags have never been banned but you can still buy and use plastic bags.   If you're so desperate for the free ones, place an online order with Tesco or Villa for a delivery.
