Thais were commenting in large numbers after a Shan state native living near the border with Mae Sot in north western Thailand posted pictures and a video of an unusual forest dweller.

Some suggested it might be a mutant Covid-19 bat from nearby China. Bats were often in the news at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Apparently the creature is fierce and highly protective.

Animal experts said it is a creature like a flying fox though it is probably a flying lemur.

It can't fly and use sonar like a bat; it prefers to leap about utilizing its batlike ribbed "wings".

As every Wet Market punter knows. Lemur is much better Stir Fried.

I thought it was a president before the make up goes on.

lemurs are only found ON MADAGASCAR!!!

That's so lemurist.

Easy to tell that it is not in fact a lemur, by the absence of John Cleese in the photo.

I asked her not to upload that photo of me. I was really wasted at the time...

It's A Colugo or Gliding Lemur. It is not a real Lemur. There are many gliding mammels in different countries. Here in South East Asia is the Colugo. They are not from the bat family

It looks like a supporting character in a movie involving the devil!

Looks like a lemur who swallowed an alien that forgot to wear underpants.
