Popular Post webfact
Well done Thailand for Covid-19 response! Foreign tourism set to return in fourth quarter Picture: MCOT Thailand's minister for tourism and sports, multi billionaire Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, has spoken with the TAT chief on what measures to adopt when the lockdown in Thailand is lifted. Top of the list is how tourism might continue post pandemic. The overriding message from an MCOT story indicated that Pipat and TAT chief Yuthasak Suphasorn agreed that domestic tourism should be targeted first. Yuthasak said that they would initially concentrate on reviving tourism in Phuket and Koh Samui. No mention was made of Pattaya, notes Thaivisa. The TAT will be issuing a report within the next fortnight on helping business operators in the tourism sector, initiating a period of "New Normal in tourism in the domestic arena before hopefully returning to more wide scale international tourism in the fourth quarter. This would coincide with the cool season and Thailand's high season for 2020-21. Pipat had nothing but praise for his fellow Thais and medical personnel. And he pointed to the country being recognised by the WHO for their excellent Covid-19 response. BobbyL
Just where does he think tourists will be coming from in around November? Also, has he perhaps engaged his brain and thought about the risks of allowing tourists to enter the country?
Popular Post mommysboy
Unfortunately, as soon as borders are reopened then the problem starts again. Of course, Thailand has done very well to stem an epidemic, but in doing so it has left the population somewhat vulnerable to imported infection.
Popular Post Lacessit
Domestic tourism targeted first? What proportion of the total tourist take will that be? Until international travel is restarted, the tourist industry in Thailand will be a shadow of its former self. The days of cheap air travel are over unless Thailand wants to subsidize inbound travel. Potential tourists will stay in their own country, many no longer have disposable income.

Maybe not. Doesn't really matter what market they aim at, both domestic and international tourism will be almost non-existing, because most people around the world has been without work. Popular Post wordchild
i think there are a significant number of visitors who will have been put off ever returning to Thailand , not least because of this ridiculous and over-zealous alcohol ban, which is now news around the world. not great publicity for a 'welcome Back' tourism drive. 6 1
