Canadian citizen enter Canada with a Thai passport?

Featured Replies

I am considering bringing my children to Canada for the start of the new school year. They have dual citizenship however their Canadian passports  expired. Currently I am stuck in Africa and may not make it back to Thailand in time to apply for new passports for them.

Would it be possible for them to leave Thailand without a VISA in their Thai passport and enter Canada? They will have their expired Canadian passports and Canadian citizenship cards. I don't see an issue entering Canada because they are Canadian however my concern is at the airport in Bangkok. Will there be any issues letting them board without a VISA in the Thai passport even though they are Canadian?

Most countries allow their citizens to enter with a expired passport. Not sure about Canada. Did a little searching and only found that the passport needs to be valid.

I suggest you contact a Canadian embassy or consulate.

The only complication in some cases is to stay in the country a person is in. In your children's case they are Thai so can be in the country as Thai nationals.

I went through the steps here and completed the info for entering with a expired Canandian passport.

I got an OK from it for entering Canada as a resident of Thailand for them. Check it yourself.

Thanks for that ubonjoe, my biggest concern is Thai quirkiness at check in. Even though my children are Canadian I worried the airline will not allow them to travel using their Thai passports without a VISA.
