Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn

Asean tourism ministers held a teleconference to discuss measures for recovery of the industry.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn took part in the conference on Wednesday (April 29).

He said that the meeting aimed to exchange information and guidelines to contain the spread of Covid-19 virus through the Asean Tourism Crisis Communications Team (ATCCT).

“Thailand has already implemented measures to mitigate the impact on entrepreneurs and employees in the tourism industry,” he said.

“In the next phase, we will issue additional measures to maintain tourism capability, generate revenue for tourism venues, develop skills for tourism personnel, establish safety standards on tourism and health, help tourism entrepreneurs, and create effective communication.”

He added that the Asean tourism ministers agreed to exchange information and guidelines to contain the spread of Covid-19 virus through the ATCCT.

“In addition, we will implement measures to create confidence among tourists who travel to Asean countries,” he added. “Meanwhile, we will comply with the rehabilitation plan to help tourism and the economy recover after the Covid-19 outbreak is resolved.”

Banning alcohol would be a good start, but maybe what tourists there might be may not like that?

Anyway no country would do that would they?

By a low interest, low amount loan and a 5000 baht a month subsidy that most people applying are being turned down for anyway.

Hardly something for the billionaire's husband to be proud of.

The booze ban will definitely help the recovery!  Nobody wants to come to Thailand and have a beer or wine on their holiday.

IMO this booze ban is aimed directly at foreigners, I believe it is their vindictive immature way of trying get back at us because we call them out and criticize at every opportunity - they hate it

Also Thais have ways and means and are not affected in any way close to foreigners except those that depend on the sales but who cares about them

I sincerely hope that western tourist take a very long time coming back here - it is clear they are not wanted or liked

Then they can have a tourism industry like Brunei has.  Pretty scenic white sand beaches, nobody, not even locals on them.

Virtual tourism is the answer.

No need to leave the armchair in your native country, just gaze at the deserted beaches and the poor villagers with you glass in your hand...

Not a hope in hell, with the Baht strength still unusually high no-one is coming here anytime soon.

When the world countries open up eventually to tourism much better deals will be found closer to home to get the punters moving, the gloves will be off to entice the tourists back to make up for losses, promotions and cut-price-deals will be the name of the game.

Thailand will have to offer more than a Wai and Walking street!

What a waste of time this teleconference was.  In the end each country will do what they feel is in their best interests.

Stop trying to educate people regarding how to service tourists, it never works - they will all go back to their mobile phones in no time.

The best idea would be to CLEAN UP, and keep everything nice and tidy in the future. Tourism sector in Thailand have been complacent for far too long.....

All this talk about luring Tourists back to Thailand, and yet there is very little talk about assisting Business,s in the Country,

I am starting to think, that due to the rhetoric, and all the Tourism focused action, that the true amount of Tourist money in relationship to GDP is closer to 40% than the stated 20%.

There seems an awful lot of emphasis being placed on only 20% of GDP.

What about the other 80%

The sad truth is the current administration are bereft of ideas, they haven’t a clue in which direction to go when it comes to assisting businesses. At least with appearing to concentrate on luring the tourists back, ifsaid tourists fail to appear the blame can be blamed solely on the foreigners
