When Did You Start Pubbing - How Much for a Pint?

Recommended Posts

Although I started drinking very young, I didn't start drinking regularly in a pub until I was 15, every Thursday after rugby training and Friday Sat. Being 6'4" helped.

This was in 1980 and it was 45p for a pint of heavy.

Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps was exactly £1.

The Church Inn behind the Fire Station in Ashton-under-Lyne, summer 1963 I was 16 and a half. Watneys Red Barrel @ 1/6d a pint. <deleted> on half a crown.

What is 1/6d in pence? I was only a young kid when they had that money.

Did my early years drinking at the Avonbridge in Hamilton and another close-by establishment whose name escapes me. Would be around 1970, but no memory of the cost of a pint of heavy. I do recall, though, when eventually reaching home and staggering up the stairs to my  bedroom, having to hang onto my bed for dear life as the room was spinning around like a dervish. Those were the days.

First time I got drunk was in a bar in Spain drinking bottled San Miguel and watching the World Cup Final in 1966. I was 12. I have no recollection of extra time. I'm not sure how much it  cost, 12 pesetas/bottle?

The first time I bought a pint of beer (cider) was at the end of a hot day spent swimming in my local river with my mates. 1969 I was 15. Pint of cider 2 shillings.

So did I, innocently of course at about 10 years old, I liked fizzy Cider and quart bottles of Bummers Cider forget how much.

Was in pubs and clubs when I was a baby with my parents.

The first time into a pub with 2 mates I was 14 and I was sure the Landlord knew we were under age we use to drink 1/2 pint of keg bitter and played darts it was 9 old pennies nowadays nearly 4 pence.

You should have seen the faces of the bar staff at my local when my photo appeared on the front page of the local rag, in my school uniform. I had been a regular for 2 years!

I cant remember what I paid for a pint when I first started drinking. The cheapest pint I remember was in a bar in Rochdale, And it was £1.01 for a pint of lager. I think I must have been 16 at the time

Early 70,s, John Peels brewery beers, 10p dark mild, 12p Bitter, 13p Lager.

I remember so well as I worked on the bar at 16 Years old in one of the local social clubs

I played snooker at local clubs. I was always the anchor man and was <deleted> by the time I played -  the booze was so cheap.

My mum used to run a betting office in Wales, and the landlord of the pub next door used to use her shop, so when I went into his pub underage, he refused to sell me a pint, so I order two half pints instead and that was ok.

I used to drink cider then, moved onto Guinness later and real ale when I grew up.

Decimalisation in February 1971 doubled the cost of drinking, a <deleted> nightmare.

Yeah I don't know how strict age in pubs were in your time.

I remember much later on that the pub we used in Harroweald was land-lorded by an ex-copper. ????
