Would be nice if someone high up in the government would get clued in on sunshine and exercise being helpful, particularly in regards to beaches.

Among the many theories this is on that I like.

Plenty of sunshine and my wife complains (having "Covid" on the lips) when I close the shades/blinds just too much

Some sunshine is important.  I think you can over do it quite easily in a place like Thailand, such that you could easily suppress your immune system.

Why waste money when you can get it for free. I'm betting that most of what you take in is passed out in the urine. Your body can't store vitamins.

It depends on the kind of vitamins if it can store it or not.

Tell that to my Neurologist, and Primary care physician.  My numbers were on the low side but are steadily climbing upwards.  They have found that an increase in Vitamin D also helps to keep the bones strong and the brain active and possibly keeps dementia at bay.  Taking a very low dosage of Vitamin D which is found in Milk and daily vitamins does not work effectively. Unless your a plant outside in the sun all day, it does not do you much good.

5000 IU seems a little excessive. Of course, if your doctor says it's OK, I'm not going to argue. ????

If you're taking a vitamin D supplement, you probably don't needmore than 600 to 800 IU per day, which is adequate for most people. Some people may need a higher dose, however, including those with a bone health disorder and those with a condition that interferes with the absorption of vitamin D or calcium, says Dr. Manson. Unless your doctor recommends it, avoid taking more than 4,000 IU per day, which is considered the safe upper limit.

Its 5,000 UI taken once a week, so the benefit is better than taking 600 to 800 units a day in order to get the numbers where they should be, as daily doses do not increase your numbers, as it it used and moved out of the system, whereas a large dose once a week gives the system the extra it needs to store it as is needed  My vitamin D level prior to this was very low because of 3 major surgeries where steroids were pumped to help in healing, Neck fusion, spine fusion, and both shoulders surgically repaired.  Was hit head on by a drunk, lucky I did not die in the crash....

Yes, you are right. Fat soluble vitamins, of which vitamin D is one of them, can be stored in the liver.

But, the point is, it's stored, not used. The body takes only what it needs.

I almost never go out in the sun as I don't like the heat so much but I do eat plenty of large salmon steaks and have done so for years.

A note to all the 'doomers' with plenty of bad things to say about salmon who will no doubt come crawling out of the woodwork - don't bother - I've heard it all already.

What compelling evidence? Not one single piece of data displayed by the lady talking head. She sounds like she is shilling for the Vitamin D supplements industry.

I have no problem accepting patients with low Vitamin D should get it up, so to speak. Going from there to COVID-19 resistance is drawing a long bow.

The clinical studies she mentions - peer reviewed?

There clued in, but their paymasters Bill Gates and Big Pharma & the like wont make any money if they encourage and advice people to take care and responsibility for their own health! Look at the censorship that has happened on Youtube where people have mentioned taking Vit C for instance, banned as "WHO" do not recommend - disgusting!

One more study on the relationship between covid 19 and air pollution, also from Harvard.

https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/covid-pm/home

Results: We found that an increase of only 1 μg/m3 in PM2.5 is associated with an 8% increase in the COVID-19 death rate (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2%, 15%). The results were statistically significant and robust to secondary and sensitivity analyses.

Obviously different people for different reasons have different levels, or there wouldn't an issue concerning Covis 19 .

For those who have adequate levels such as you , need not worry about it, But for others who for whatever reason do not, supplements is one way . I take a multivitamin that contains 120% of the daily recommended dose of vitamin D   , which is probably unnecessary being that i spend a lot of time in the sun .

For many of us who are of a certain age, a multivitamin is IMO a must, as we cant be sure that we get the necessary amounts from

diet.

Correlation is not causation, but there's little doubt that people who get lots of sunshine and fresh air survive better, it was even a therapy prior to the introduction of antibiotics. Yeah, I know, antibiotics do nothing for viruses, but the whole fresh air/sunshine thing went out of the window with the intoduction of antibiotics because they were just so much more effective against bacterial infections. As for supplements, I'm a bit wary of these, the body is a very complex system, to get the balance right is very difficult. Like, I looked into bone health, my head spinned when researching it. I came to the conclusion that just eating good foods was the best solution, cos usually these have a mixture of the right nutrients. .

You only need 10 to 30 minutes per day several times a week. You won't get skin cancer at that rate of exposure. If you did, man-kind would have gone extinct a long time ago.

Some interesing info here. Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam have high levels of vitamin D among the population, especially in comparison to parts of southern Europe such as Spain, Italy and Greece. Probably there are too many correlated variables to make any conclusions though. Low vitamin D is a big problem among the elderly, especially those that don't get out of the house / nursing home much.

Vitamin D is fat-soluble.

There are actually tests to determine whether or not you are deficient.
