Cars - It really is a black and white issue.

Featured Replies

Old Stadtler has noticed something since the idiots closed his pool.  Stadtler has taken to walking and biking as these are two things the authoritarian a holes can't tell Stadtler how he can do them.

But what has Stadtler noticed during his evening walks?  Why black and white cars of course.  Stadtler noticed that most of the cars in the parking lots were equally white or black.  There were some colored cars that caught Stadtler's attention, but it was that they were so few and most cars were either black or white.

Now Stadtler is no one's fool, and he would choose a white car, over a black car.  Is that racist?  I'll bet Henry Ford never stepped foot in Thailand.

What's happened here?

sounds like a lot of gray area there...

I'll take a wild guess.

Black or white cars sell the fastest?

There is a new car sweeping the earth...it is a hybrid...a marrying of both white and black cars... blurring the lines between the two colors.

In a couple generations...both black and white cars will be reminiscent of bygone era...

Nothing new in any of that. I noticed it years ago.

The answer is that if everyone chooses either white or black, then mass production of just those 2 colours will be cheaper. Which is precisely the case. If you want red or green or some other colour, you get to pay quite a lot of extra bahts. Which most Thais can't afford.

I would have said metallic grey/silver and its variations were more popular if I was asked.

Did you actually ever bought a car in Thailand?

Twenty years ago indeed most manufacturers produced cars in only 2 or 3 colours, because that was cheaper.

Nowadays cars are available in almost every colour you can think about, and the colour you choose will not cost a single Baht extra.

Not what one notices here in rural Thailand, where most vehicles are cheap pickups. Still mostly black or white or silver but no doubt other colours more and more as prosperity increases. Cars somewhat ahead in that particular curve too.

When we bought our new Mazda 3 in 2016 we had to pay extra to get red (or any other colour beyond black, white or silver).

When I bought a new black car ( Ford Orion ) back in the 80’s I swore I would never buy another as it appeared to get dirty very quickly, scratches stood out and was a real <deleted> to get a good finish if I tried to polish it !!

Soo, when I bought another (????) some 25 years later I encountered the same problems, actually went to buy a white one but the black looked so much better side by side .( Citroen C4 Pallas (sedan) ), Hated that car for many reasons but mostly that frigging steering wheel with the fixed centre !!

Have had many different car colours over the years, blue, red, grey and even a Chrysler Avenger in a nasty brown colour.

But more recently white and silver have appealed more, although having said that I do like the Mazda red colour ????

It's a culture thing. A black car is a sign that you are a professional person, doctor, dentist, lawyer etc.

Permit me to doubt concepts such as the Stefan-Boltzmann Law are widely taught in Thailand.

UK police have started to buy silver cars as they are easier to sell on after. The battenburg is now a wrap rather then an actual spray job.

Most practical colors grey/silver, reflect as much heat as white car, camouflage little dirt, and looks metal.

In Thailand ?.

From what Ive seen if the colour chosen is anything other than a select basic solid colour you are paying more for it.

Mazda's Soul Red was a Bt.20,000 option.

Just as a wild guess, from the 7 new cars and pickups I have bought here, all in different colours and never had to pay extra.

Not any of those cars was black or white, and all had a different colour.

I know that ONE poster here posted that he had to pay extra for a red Mazda, and that has been repeated over and over by others, who most likely never bought a new red Mazda in Thailand.

Not exactly "every colour you can think about", then!   Most manufacturers here only offer five or six options, some as little as three.

Smart people by white in super hot and sunny countries.

Whatever people who know nothing will try to explain you, this is wrong and scientifically proven that white cars get less hot than black cars.

But yes, some people buy black because they think they have style ???? Black toyota or honda ! so stylish !

It is fact that Black and White cars have a better resale value in Thailand.

Our car in Thailand is blue simply because we needed a good car for when we were there so that we wont have to rent, and a close village friend of my wife who owns a used car lot had  it just come in, vary low mileage, clean like new, and a good deal. But all the new cars we buy are either silver, white , black or dark gray. With first preference  being Silver. second white, third gray and last black.

They say "you know you are getting old when your favorite color is beige"  LOL

I have bought a few new cars here and the reason thai people do not like bright green/Orange /red is because they say they look cheap and look the same as a taxi.

In principle I avoid black/dark coloured cars simply because they heat up so much in the sun while the white colour goes a long way to reflecting the heat.

I’m not sure which Thailand you’re in but it’s not the same as the one I’m in. Colour choices are very few beyond the basics and god help you if you want to choose the interior colour. When I was trying to negotiate with Honda last year it was a take it or leave it mai dai. I decided to leave it and won’t be changing my car. When I talked to the sales person about the choices we can have in Europe she was shocked, she really had no idea.

Commonest colour for pickup trucks is brown/bronze.

Black vehicle drivers? Usually drive like they own the road, scum of the earth.
