If you think its for tourists only I suggest you rock up and explain you live here and see how far you get.

How much more do you have to be discriminated against before you would say enough is enough and leave?

There are many travel options to choose from...it is immigration that needs to become more farang friendly in order to keep and attract longterm retirees...????

I think this is not enough yet to protect the Thais from an evil virus. They should also ban foreigners from domestic flights (except airplanes leaving the country). Farangs should also be banned from any larger Shopping Malls. Also, don't let them driving on the road even if it's their own vehicle! Now that's more efficient! Actually leave them in permanent quarantine at home even better. If they work, let them only travel to and from work. And don't forget to leave your hard earned cash with your Thai spouse or in another Thai bank account!

Seriously, I would have been out here since a long time if I didn't have my family and my job here. Also my own home country isn't much better. ????

The excess charges for the national parks and other attempts at double pricing was one issue I didn't like for the outrageous clumsiness, but tolerated. What I am hearing / reading more of is growing announcements of what could be described as 'state sponsored xenophobia' which once spread through society would making living in Thailand a less enjoyable experience for Westerners.

Has Thailand lost its charm? this has been an ongoing discussion for well over a decade. Modernisation and development certainly changes the character of a place. We also develop and our attitudes change.

What we are prepared to put up with and tolerate is a very individual concept, more recently I found myself tolerating more than I was prepared to put up with and that is the singular facet of never being absolutely sure I could return home after one of my many frequent trips overseas.

I can go down this weekend with my blond haired blue eyed wife and daughters. We all have Thai ID cards. If they don't let us in, then you'll be right.

If they do, then you'll be wrong. It won't make the move any less stupid, but it will be the difference between racism (which I take seriously) vs straight out nationalism (which I also have issues with).

I don't think it's intelligent enough to be racism, it's just bone ignorance and stupidity.

There are foreigners coming in, have been for a couple of weeks. All with work permits and doing 14 day quarantine at hotels.

I came here 21 years ago met a wise dutch guy who spoke and read and wrote Thai ..i was in awe

His lasting words to me

Their ignorance is only matched by their stupidity

I learnt he was not wrong!

Cry me a river..... Its 1 bus company out of who knows how may in Thailand that you cant ride on their bus as plenty other bus companies that will take a farangs money. Same goes with praying to Budha with Thais as plenty of other places where you can be one with Budha and ride a bus to get you there.

And, in the unlikely event that these foreigners want to travel on a "The Transport Co." bus (a state enterprise), they will be refused a seat.

Thais returning from the same countries, and having to undergo the same quarantine, will be permitted to travel on "The Transport Co." buses.

Thais who have not left the country during this covid pandemic can travel on these buses. Foreigners who have not left the country will be refused a seat.

Okay, it's a rather petty issue which doesn't affect many of us "dirty foreigners", but it can't be denied that this is discrimination (by a state enterprise) solely on the basis of nationality.

Calm down tiger, I agree with you.

I was simply making the point that eligible foreigners have been allowed back into Thailand in recent weeks based on personal knowledge of a couple who have.

You mean like NZ and Australia? Foreigners blocked There are many many others.

No disagreement. I was just using your post to indicate that foreigners permitted to enter Thailand are treated differently to Thais.

Sorry if it came across as something else.

OP: Maybe you need to head to the US and join the riots. Since the "policies" that you highlight did not exist before the pandemic, one can safely assume they are in response to it. Intelligent, or not, you can debate. But racist it is not.

The difference being that Black Americans were citizens of the country segregating them. We have the choice to go home.

Having done business with Thais for years, I can assure you that there are some pretty savvy Thais who could give you a run for your money. Likewise, it you care to look for it, ignorance and stupidity is not in short supply in my own country.

Rather than buying into the standard and rather tired narrative, how about this one? For many of us who are white men, this sort of allows us a glimpse into the black (or people of color) mindset in many nations. Especially in the past when we as a race subjugated millions to horrendous treatment, and outright ownership, due to little more than the color of their skin.

I know alot of white men will find this suggestion offensive. And so? Perspective can be a beautiful and useful tool. So, let's flip this scenario on its head. In general I think we are over rated as a race, so why not?

And considering the extent to which Europe and the US blew the response to Covid, it is likely we will be seen as "a bit radioactive" for the next year or so. So what? Kind of fun playing Zombie farang!

Not talking about the smiles...the volume of redundant paperwork could be reduced and still have everything they need.
