These horrendous PR releases have no consideration for the Thai people the government are supposed to represent. Almost all of my Thai friends are in terrible situations right now ad because their jobs and businesses depend on tourism and the gov. is doing everything it can to drive tourists away. 

Travel is going to be disrupted for a long time and selecting people based on social class isn't going to help drive the numbers up.

Everyone wants the big spenders. The wealthy? Who are they? What do they want? After a year, the rock n' rollers who are not broke back home may straggle back in for a week in the sun and some Pad Thai from a small shop. They were not numerous before the virus and that has to be remembered.

I've lived all over SE Asia and and if I had wealth the last place I would be is Thailand - All the said wealthy go to the likes of Singapore in Asia .... where I'm returning.  Why stay in a 5* star hotel next to an open sewer to the sea, swim in your own turds! I thought Jakarta was bad for trash! Holy cow - Bangkok is an absolute greasy toilet with a lot of angry white hating unemployed people who will remain as such.  I think this guy is after the Cancun, Mexico dream..... problem is, I've been there and its never going to get the investment - Cancun, Hawaii or even Cuba absolutely THRASH Thailand on every Tourism Metric from the US way.. Bali likewise and Greece, Malta, Spain and S. Africa from the other way... This guy is an armchair retard with no experience it seems and its the same cost or less elsewhere without the hassles.... Is he intending a new 'RICH LANE' at the airports <deleted>....

We are not married, but 7 years together and a family home.

It appears that my retirement extension is nothing but a tourist visa when it comes to family matters.

It really is remarkable how remote from reality these characters are. For the last few years they have been damaging the tourist industry through their various announcements and initiatives, seemingly unaware of it's decline, Covid 19 has put it into Intensive Care, and now they are donning their "Dr No" outfits and preparing to deliver the "coup de grace!

Actually mallorca is moving away from the bottom of the market and have invested hundreds of millions in hotels in an effort to focus on family friendly resorts .it will not happen overnight but the days of the booze cruise and pub crawls are finished.

And all the smaller venues, hotels, bars and restaurants they r just to close up shop. And all the millions of locals working there will find work some where else ??

And these high end tourists will of course stay in there secluded area and wont see the garbage piling up round every corner and wont get affected by the road carnage with the highest death tolls i Asia.

Mallorca has the best beaches of the world...compare that to any thai beach full of plastic, cheap terraces, soi dogs, annoying vendors, groups of chinese...

On Mallorca you meet nice tourists with whom you can share stories and drinks....much better imo

Trouble is that Thailand likes to 'aspire' but without the will to actually commit to the hard work, ie improve the infrastructure, remove the scams and really make it a wonderful vacation destination.

 

Building a few hundred more condos doesn't make the environment any better, fix bust up sidewalks, make the water out of the faucet drinkable, keep the power on after two claps of thunder, and certainly doesn't resolve the garbage that will litter any picture that 'rich tourist' tries to take of even the most beautiful vista.

 

Got to change some attitudes before you can change the place I fear!

I have an advice. Do not change a thing, go on like always, you have no tourists? Just rise the prices, like you did many times before. Ultimately you will get the big spenders, a handful guys will still visit the land of Thais, but those only who have to despite all inconvenience...

 

Thai society needs a fundamental change how they see foreigners and how they interact with foreigners. Fundamental reeducation starting in schools and media!

 

Garbage like Thailand's Anoutins are poison for society. As long as foreigners are seen to be as low as cats and dogs, nothing real can come out of any plan to recover tourism industry. The land of smiles that they have sold us for 30 years, turned out to be a hostile desert and many people are aware of it now.

If you have a bad year or things are temporarily depressed, the solution is to raise prices. It's the time-honored failed strategy of "making it all back in a short time." 

 

Similarly, if you have a successful business, the landlord will raise the rent because he thinks, "I should be making more money, too."

No, I used to holiday in Spain all the time, fantastic beaches and very clean, beautiful clean and clear water.

Thailand is dirty and every beach I've been to had sand flies.
