Any Good Nursery Schools In Cm? I'm Looking For Somethwhere I Can Take My Son For A Few Hours A Day, About Three Days A Week.

I've been having trouble finding a nursery school for my son. He's only newly three, and in my opinion too young for full time, or even half time school, but that's all that seems to be on offer in CM.

I'm just looking for a fun and social environment, where he'll have some structured activities and play time with others his own age.

People are always extolling the virtues of sending REALLY young children to schools here, but I just don't get it. Isn't a 2-3 year old better off at home with family?

I understand that for many, their working hours require them to enroll their children, and that these schools are sort of functioning as daycare providers. But for parents who are fortunate enough to be able to spend their days with their kids while they are really young, why send them away. You never get those years back, and can you really expect others to care for your little guys as well as you do?!

I don't know. I feel like I'm speaking contrary to prevailing wisdom, and am wondering how others weigh in on the subject.

Anyways, I digress. So, if anyone has any info or recommendations on good part time nursery care, I would be very appreciative to hear from you.

I think it depends on the parents to make that decision. Our son goes to nursery school and loves it, he is extremely well cared for and as an only child it is healthy for him to socialise with other children. My opinion was that he belonged at home with his mother because that is the "proper way". Here in Thailand the extended family did the same job and allowed parents to work with siblings - especially older sisters who could be as young as 8 taking care of toddlers. Now with compulsory school the preschool has taken over that role to a partial extent. Grandparents and aunts take a large role of sharing the burden.

discuss this with you wife and make a decision based on your own judgement.

My son goes to nandachart preschool which is a bilingual school behind wat lok morli.

It's not that cheap at 15,000 baht a term but they are flexible with the hours.

The school week is monday to friday 9.00 till 4.00 but I bring my son 3 days a week [he's 3 years old]

and sometimes I will collect him early.

I have friends who take their kids to Little Stars.Its a bilingual kindergarten and they praise the place highly.

I was in your situation 18 months ago when my son was 2 years old and I wanted him to have some social interaction without having to go to 'school' five days a week. We couldn't find anywhere that would take him part time and that seemed to be not too rigidly structured.

I was beginning to despair(!) when we discovered Nandachart Preschool mentioned in a post above which had recently opened and he's been there ever since. The facilities are good quality, the environment is safe, the groups are small and we just drop him off whenever we like - usually about 3 days a week - and he's really happy to go.

It's just off the moat on a little soi between Icon Square and Jet Petrol station. Daily rate is 180 baht.

My friend Dan takes his 3 yr old son Leo to the same school mentioned above. I've been there with Dan to pick his son up. Seems like a very well organised, caring place with lots of activities.

Many thanks again to all that responded with advice (thank you Ryan for the PM's you sent). We decided to go with Nandachart based partially on the recommendations of Thai Visa members.

My son loves it, and it seems to be a really well run, safe and very kid friendly-fun place.

I was worried about the separation anxiety, but after a couple of hours at the school, I think that he'd pretty much forgotten about his poor old mom and dad!

Time will tell if we've made the best decision, but I've been very impressed so far.
