 Large groups of Thais/foreigners gathering in Pattaya despite COVID-19 concerns

Siam Chon News reported that Pattaya police were once again called to the area outside the Tree Town market on Soi Bua Khao after a large group of more than 100 foreigners and Thais were congregating.

 

They were eating and drinking and spilling out onto the sidewalk, all in contravention of the Covid-19 regulations. 

 

Siam Chon News also noted there were some scantily clad females without masks chatting to the foreigners in groups. 

 

In addition there were lots of motorcycles half blocking the road.

 

Locals were fearful about the spread of the virus and would not dare to pass such an illegal gathering, they reported.

They said this was the second time in a week that the cops had been called after they went there on Sunday. 

 

The local chief Pol Col Kemmarin Phitsamai said in earlier reports that he knew what was going on and intended to crack down.

 

Siam Chon News said people in the area wanted action. 

 

No action - at least in the form of arrests - was reported by the media after the police went at 11 pm on Wednesday.

 

They said the people congregating seemed to have no care about getting Covid-19.

I was at a tourist attraction yesterday (not mentioning which one) there were huge crowds there attending shows etc and very few out of thousands of people were adhering to any rules - here we have a handful of people mostly Thai - what are they going on about, and motorbikes have been parking along there for years why suddenly now is it a problem - if parking is prohibited then paint the curbs red and white and make it official

And who are they scared of catching it from? With no cases anywhere in the country for a month, there is nobody out there with it, making the continuing paranoia just ludicrous. Glad at least that the cops didn't make fools of themselves by arresting anyone.

Its no "reported" cases in the country. The broader population hasnt been tested so the virus could still be spreading.

Yes, nobody presenting at hospital is a pretty good indicator that the virus may be under control, but not a definitive indicator that no cases exist.

The problem isnt anything to do with parking, its the fact that Tree town is operating like a giant pub, people congregating, drinking, no distancing, no masks etc

A couple of youtubers have done visits there in the last week and their videos show huge crowds

haha Where I live the police came and painted the curb red and white and put signs up that parking wasn't allowed outside some Japanese restaurants.

One of the restaurants did a little renovation and painted the wall and footpath covering up the red and white markers. The sign also disappeared.

The Thailand YouTubers seem to be experts in promoting dodgy activities, not complying with guidelines and generally making fools of themselves.  Nothing new.

Banglamung Hospital and I am sure many others, have started discharging patients to clear up their ICU's and hospital beds. They are clearing the decks for something on the order of the government.

I presume it's the farangs motorcycles that are a problem

the Thais food carts on the 2 side of the road all along soi bukkhao

blocking half of the road aren't a problem at all

Valid argument there but until there is a vaccin all it takes is ONE infected person to re-start the whole mass all over again, is it worth it i ask? can one be absolutely sure that the virus has gone for good? i don't think think so...

They wil open next week, they can  wait few days

the date of the 1 july for the reopening is now oficial

i don't get it why they are annoyed by some people gathering

on the street side, the bars are not open yet anyway, so it's not

a loss of customers for them

Perhaps they don't want to wait while enduring all this bedlam on their doorstep. These goons are breaking rules currently active, why can THEY not wait a few days.

The sidewalks (When they exist, as you know already there is no sidewalks

on soi Bukkhao except in front of Treetown, that explain the gathering here)

are a public place, it's not the private property of few bars owners.

Who in Pattaya isn't breaking a rule at least one time in a day? 

If the bedlam is a concern for you, i can not understand why did

you choose to live in the soi bukkao area, it doesn't make sense

Open air and still safer than what you might see from next week.

And much safer than riding MRT in Bangkok (top of ridiculous "distancing measures").
