What would you miss about Thailand?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Let's suppose as individuals or en masse, we had to leave Thailand for whatever reason.

I would miss:

My Thai GF, definitely.

Regular massages that comparatively cost peanuts.

My friends here.

Genuine Thai food, pad thai goong, pad siew gai, mussuman curry, sai ua sausage.

Looking at the beautiful legs and butts I see in the shopping malls.

My freedom of movement on my scooter, and the ability to park it anywhere I want.

The smile I get when I perform a random act of kindness.

The low penalties for minor breaches of the law.

Renting an apartment at an affordable price.

A climate where I don't have to shiver with cold.

My daily adventures in Thai traffic, excellent antidote to Ahlzheimer's.

What would you miss?

Makes a tear come to my eye thinking about the time I came up a few thousand baht short...they passed a hat around the office to cover the difference...what a great bunch of people!  ????

When I left Thailand I was so relieved I didn't miss a thing.

I think one thing people have to understand, using Florida USA where I live now, is there is everything Thai available here as there is in Thailand. The weather in Florida is much better as well. So if you are married and have a family, what is there really to miss if you are giving your family a better life?

Not that it concerns me in the slightest but for my wife, not much of a change.

Thai people, Thai restaurants, Thai Groceries, Thai Temples. No need to miss all that because it is here. I eat Thai food maybe once a month here, maybe less.

I don't think you can ever replace a Thai massage outside of Thailand though!

Eye Candy in Thailand? Come on.  I can tell you one day on a Florida beach, you will see the most beautiful and FIT women you have ever seen. No comparison really. Zero chance so forget it!

The air pollution, the droughts, then the floods, electric going off with no warning, water going off with no warning, traffic. No do not miss any of that.

The biggest thing though is almost non-existent stress since I returned.

Comfort level is 100% higher in a modern house, easy to get around, any kind of food and beverage you want, tons of car choices, boats, motorcycles, you name it. Sports programming, concerts and events, the beach, being able to build things in a full shop in my garage, speaking English, medical care, etc. Just a whole lot easier.

I enjoyed my Thai experience, however, I realized after I got married, there is just so much more to offer here than in Thailand.

Now that being said, I am back working in corporate America and I can afford all those things. It would be a totally different story if I couldn't.

Well, good for you.

I lived in Florida for 6 months thought it was the worst place in the US.

High crime, hurricanes, hot and humid much worse then Thailand, very over populated, flat and touristy, bugs everyplace, fake people plastic surgery everywhere.

And the cost of living is approx. 50% higher.

Hey, and don´t forget the great job they have done on Covid over 8,000 cases just yesterday in Florida.

But, good for you if you like it and it fits your life enjoy.

I’m not in Thailand currently but will definitely return once this Covid crisis is over.

It’s the place that I feel most relaxed in and I enjoy the fact that it’s lively and vibrant in the evening ... people are out and about, not sitting at home wondering what to watch on TV. Although it’s very “foreign” compared to home I always feel very comfortable there.

It’s funny how all your negatives in Thailand were once part of the character and amusement of living there but eventually become tedious along with visa hassles, Chinese and rubbish littered beaches.

For me I’d miss the cheap rent and cheap women.

Zero chance to have them either, so why bother looking.

And if you did by chance score one, next day they'd be making accusations and/or wanting half your assets.

Complete exaggerations!

No crime in my area but I guess if you are poor and live in a one room flat in the ghetto same as you can afford in Thailand, there would be crime.

Hurricanes? Give me a break. House has never been damaged ever.

Over populated? Have you ever really been to Florida? 50 miles from the east coast to Orlando there is nothing but open land. No houses, no people. Is that over-crowded like Bangkok?

No bugs near the coast, sorry you are wrong again.

Compare the cost of living in a US $300,000 house in the USA with a $300,000 house in Thailand. Should you compare a house and land you own outright in your own name with a one room flat you are renting in Thailand?

Covid is a fact of life. 21 million people live in Florida and how many total cases? Do the math.

You sell the doom and gloom not the facts.

I am not sure why people post things as far from the truth as it can get?

Why is that?

Looking is one thing, but we all know, hot 20 years old's in the first world don't go for 70 year old's unless they have a couple hundred million.

It's funny, how did you end up in Thailand exactly?

Did the character and amusement of your home country become tedious?

When you don't burn bridges, you have a plan that best suits YOU and YOU only.

I pay 11,000bht/month for a 3 bedroom house in a gated middle class Thai community (local fees/tax 500bht/month). No break-ins since the village was built 7 years back.

Beautiful mountain views (for 9 months of the year, pollution).

I had similar views in Cornwall for 10x the cost (for 3 months of the year, rain)

Do I need to answer this question?

Actually it is amazing how many answers here are the same as mine. :clap2:

Buy Apartment Price Miami, FL   Bangkok
Price per Square Foot to Buy Apartment in City Centre

$422.82
(13,055.94 ฿)

$541.46
(16,719.31 ฿)

However, one interesting fact of ownership, which you OWN in the US:

Property appreciation has been going up, up, up.

$80,000 increase in valuation of our property over the last 1.5 years due to a new roadway built a few miles away with easy access to Orlando. Houses are selling in my area averaging around 2 weeks. Try selling a house in Thailand in 2 weeks at full price.

You use to own the views in Cornwall, in Thailand you are just renting the views!

It is a nice view, however.

So the takeout eventually takes 50%.

page 3 returns to Siam to find another Bangkok Lil but now with reduced funds can only afford the trailer park in Orlando, bugs, hoodrats, crackpipes etc.

Didn’t Stephen Leather write a book along these lines?

I used to think that, but in the end the divorce Judge told me my former Brit wife owned the views.

I'm probably better off here because my former Thai wife can't make the mortgage repayments.

Actually,  if one has a great deal of money there are many places that might be enjoyable.

Personally i don't like american people ......... and your one statement above would definitely

over rule any positives in my case.

So, its Thailand or bust for me.   Though old age is causing me to be less forgiving of the annoyances

we encounter here.    But i am sure the annoyances would exist anywhere, just maybe different ones.

I would miss ........... the generally reserved and pleasant attitudes of the real thai people.   Not the

city or tourist area ones.

Immigration corruption is about my only annoyance here.

oh,  i would also miss the guy who has to give a wai sign after all his posts.

and now the new one who has a case of the claps every post

I haven't reached the stage of dribbling - yet. A few weeks ago, there was one in the Tops supermarket that had a tush so shapely ( and she knew how to move it ) I felt like lying down on the floor and howling like a dog at the moon.

Being able to go to beach bar, have a few beers and ride MC home without even thinking about a cop stopping me.

Living a short distance from the beach, love everything about the beach. Could probably have this in Fla but still not the same. Just had a nice dinner in an air cond restaurant (3) of us and cost 370 bht. I could be happy in Ca but living in TL is still pretty neat.
