Thai media published a story about young street racers caught at a checkpoint with noisy exhausts.

They were encouraged to smash the offending items that had annoyed the locals.

This was done in front of parents.

Sanook reported that Pol Col Pramote Phophan - the chief of the U-Thong station in Suphanburi in central - had set up a checkpoint on Route 321.

Fifty bikes and 60 suspects were stopped.

Most of the bikes didn't have plates and had been illegally modified.

Those who had the original exhausts were told to get them and change them before the bikes were released.

Those who didn't have the original parts anymore had their bikes seized for seven days according to the law.

Violators were not forced but were encouraged to use a mallet to smash up their exhausts after police explained the law and spoke to them about the annoyance they were causing.

The mallet was taken up by the riders as parents looked on.

Police said bikes could be adapted but the law must be followed.

Want them to learn? Both parents and kids?  Never give back the bikes. They are now simply gone..

A lot of parents are paying for the bikes. So if the government makes it expensive if you break the laws then it will solve the problem. You have to hit their wallet to make them pay attention. Words will go around the neighbourhood that the neighbour next door just lost 15,000 baht because the son took part in the illegal racing this will have a good impact and they will start to think. Bikes will be kept by the police until the penalty is paid. Bikes not redeem will be auction off and money goes to the police welfare coffer.

When you buy a bike a deposit of a certain sum(big sum something  like 15,000 baht) if you re found without the exhaust or took part in racing you lose your 15,000 baht deposit. After 2 years you have not broke the law then your deposit money will be refund to you. If you broke the law your insurance premium will go up 300 percent that will really make you think twice.

If you are above 40 years old you are not subject to these laws.
