PM Prayut never helps lawbreakers

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - Concerning the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) decision not to press charges against Vorayuth Yoovidhya, who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run case in Bangkok eight years ago, with the Royal Thai Police having agreed with the acquittal, the Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, insists that he has never helped anyone who broke the law. The Prime Minister says everything must be in accordance with the legal process, and he has ordered the Royal Thai Police to set up a committee to look into the prosecution’s decision.

 

The Government Spokeswoman, Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, said Gen. Prayut is following this hit-and-run case closely and wants the issue to be further investigated, to ensure fairness to all parties.

 

The Prime Minister is aware of the people’s feelings about the issue, and has instructed related authorities to gather all facts about the prosecution’s investigation of the case. The Prime Minister has never intervened in the judicial process, and there are no vested interests involved.

 

The Prime Minister insisted that the investigation includes police officers who oversee this case and prosecutors. The Prime Minister did not appoint the prosecutors, as they are performing their duties in accordance with the law and without external influences.

 

It has to be based on evidence, facts and judicial proceedings. All offenders must be penalized. Members of the public should not distort the facts and link them with unrelated issues, because this can lead to misunderstanding.

So, that is why he let the ones who is a part of deciding to not press charges investigate themselves? That´s what is wrong with the Thai system, has always been and will forever continue to be.

And that must mean that they where seeking a Interpol Red Note based on to weak evidence. That´s a very stupid thing to do, but in line with normal procedures I suppose. ????

 

All offenders must be penalized. What does he mean with that? Was it more people in the car, or does he really think there are bad apples that takes bribes in high and deciding positions? Is this man starting to believe he can not trust his own people, which begs the question. Can he even trust himself?

This story made quite  a lot of international headlines some yrs ago .

Now , Thailand drops all charges against the fugitive , it will be seen internationally as proof that Thailand is still a corrupt country , where the rich still can buy their way out of justice . That is a ' loss of face ' for Thailand . And therefore should be avoided .

Once again , it is all about ' face'  (= international reputation ) . I would not be surprised if the decision to drop the charges will be reversed ...

Yes , they are all corrupt and bend the law how it suits them ... but that is not specific to only Thailand ...

Somebody elected into a position where this person gets a lot of power is easily corrupted by greed and the possibility to act in a way that leads to personal enrichment . It needs a very strong character not to succumb to the temptation ...

An important distinction to make as smuggling across international borders is a more serious offence and can be punished by a death sentence in Thailand.

 

It is also important to check the other parts of the convicted drug smuggler's history, very sinister indeed.
