Why are people staying in Thailand when then can't meet TI's financial requirements?

A nearly $100k car

A high level degree, yes. But years of experience and perfect references, for just an entry level position, no.

 

While unable to meet those requirements, here I was able to obtain a lovely wife, a decent job, and a nice place to live. Now utterly impossible back home, what was once The American Dream.

 

And what are you going to do when your Thai dream collapses? Run away again? Where to?

Most of those hotels do not provide woman  , you have to bring your own along

Yes, never been to a short-time hotel that doesn't have phone numbers they can ring.

 

Thai lawyer I know went to one in CM, with no woman, asked at the desk "Can you help me?", within 5 minutes 3 girls in university uniforms turned up for him to choose from. Which one would you like? his reply, I'll take them all. 

 

Another pal, just used to go alone to use the Jacuzzi, they would always knock on the door and ask if he wanted someone to join him.

I think you have little worry about at the moment,

 

 

If you are convinced that you will see that sort of improvement - and you want to meet immigration rules, without the cost of an agent - open a Foreign Currency Account and use that to satisfy the financial requirements.

Just another cheap charlie. Why do people come to Thailand, build or buy a 6M baht home, walled in, two story, with a circle driveway and become Cock on Dung Hill and look down on those with less. In my country you would be hard pressed to buy a tract house for that. And you might manage you water bill with that AC money

When I first went to LOS, green as green moss in Ireland, I stayed in a recommended hotel off Sukhumvit, and couldn't work out why the lobby always had a load of young women hanging around.

I went to the recommended restaurant for breakfast every day- German joint up Soi 4 ( many old timers will know the place ) and wondered why so many single women were drinking coffee there.

 

I miss the old days so much. Happier times indeed.

The cost of staying is what the cost of staying is. I got more interest on my money in a Thai bank than what I got in London, so I didn't mind too much.

In both Countries, the interest rates are pitiful , not really worth being concerned about .

Its the exchange rates you need to be concerned about , if the Pound goes to 50 Baht, you would lose 30 % of your Pounds

If I could get the pension over there ( I can't which is why I left- savings ran out ), I'd be on the next plane over once flights start again, and lose whatever it took. It'd be worth it.

There's a smoothie shop between the 4 main 'love hotels', I sit there and have a drink while waiting for my friend to arrive. I've noticed an exceptional number of attractive young Thai ladies walking by with full back tattoos (on display), including the smoothie shop girl.

Things that make me go hmmmmmmmmm ..........

 

Back on topic,

I can't believe Thailand is so cheap sometimes, while driving the s/h m/c I just bought, noticed it was a bit jerky when accelerating and changing gears. Had a look and the chain is so loose it's dragging on the swinging arm, so into my local 'somchai garage'. Adjust and lube the chain please, puts the bike up on blocks, tightens the chain, sprays it with lube ......... how much? 30bht. Still a bit jerky, doesn't look like they ever adjusted the clutch, did that myself ..... a lot better ride now.

I never had a problem with professional employment in the US. It may be your degree and experience isn't in a desired profession. I returned to Thailand because I really like the Thai culture, environment (except burning season) people and food. I'm fortunate to speak proper Thai as I didn't learn on the street or market, so it's much easier to fit in. My wife's family is well established (many generations) and respected, that contribute to my acceptance. , plus savings. 

My wife and I both had professional careers in the US and enjoy generous pensions.

My wife had a Mercedes for a few years, but I stuck with a Turbo Volvo (better performance).

I guess we would be considered the lower end of upper middle class at about $200K/yr. Once we paid off our mortgage we were getting killed with taxes, so I got my wife to retire early.

Remember when Thai girls wouldn't have bare shoulders or crop tops that exposed belly? My my, how times have changed.

 

First takeaway I had wouldn't even walk with me in public.
