Where is a place with good service and reasonable prices?  Recommendations for a machine max 15-20 000 baht.

I recoment that buy machine whitch heat water also! Get clean clothes, i notice before that all my white clothes was ruined coz nothing spot go away after wash! Whit your budget you get that kind! I buy my last one from Home Pro. And off cource automatic machine, not that kind sht where have 2 chamber!

I don't know specific to Chang Rai...but bought ours from PowerBuy last year (prices around Thailand are amazingly similar). Same deals at PowerBuy, PowerMall, HomePro, etc etc. Brand Electrolux...so far very happy with it. You really need to assess what features and even more importantly what capacity you need. How many loads per week, how many people in your household, how many 'oversize' items you might have to wash.

As above you need to make up mind on size and type first.

1.  Front or top loading?  Each has advantages and disadvantages.  There appears to be a change to more front loaders here (perhaps due to more limited condo space) but many Thai will want to soak first and that means top loader.

2.  Increased size equals more space and cost but in general top loaders are larger capacity.  

 

Wife will not consider front loader, does not want to bend over to load, so last purchase was a large Panasonic TL WM PANA NA-FS16V7SRC 16 KG INV (about 18k from HomePro). (8 person extended family) with heater (which not normally used) and it has worked very well and normally several loads a day.

Front loaders are useful if you place them in the kitchen (very common here) and then can be fitted under a countertop space for efficiency. But given different circumstances...top loaders are my preference.

Agree - they free up the space above so very good for tight quarters.  They also use less water but that is not normally that much of a concern here.

I would hope so too. Bought a Samsung top loader, 12kg capacity in 2012 for Bht 12,000. Still going strong being used 3 x a week. It is outside on the kitchen patio.

I bought a fridge a couple of years back at the electrical goods store opposite Ribs and Co.

Marked down to 30,000 from 70,000 list price they delivered (25kms) and set it up for me.

I have to get out and look for the different brands and models. One problem will be that brochures are in Thai so not easy to know what you are looking at.  

Scea that shop is called Thawee Yon .Yes they have many good deals and do delivery and set up and repairs when necessary. "Thawee Yon "  is phonetic for the Thai name of the company you mentioned  Scea my B.I.L works for them as a pump specialist. They have many shops around the north.  I have a 12kg LG that is working like new  but the machine was very busy for 8 years and still going strong.

My wife purchased a top of the type LG 2-tub 3 months ago.  It has a problem last month and we were told the 1 year warranty applied only to the motor and transmission, and since or problem had to do with the pumps, we were SOL.   We had a different company come in and check it out.  A 3,000 Baht repair charge later, a lesson learned.

 

There seems to be a massive difference in warranties from company to company in Thailand.  On the face of it, they do appear similar - just be sure you have a good Thai reader check the warranty before you buy.

Thank you Scea and Randell. I went to this shop Thawee Yon and there I found a Electrolux top-loaded 14 kg for 12 990 baht.  (ewt1454dcwa) Price was reduced from 15 990 baht. 

The salesmen did not speak English and just wanted to speak Thai but I walked around in this quite big shop and asked for someone that speaks English. And I found this guy Udomsak that was very helpful. He helped me with the contract, we printed out a Google Maps pic to show where my house is. The machine was delivered and installed next day. 

I have done two loads of laundry so far and I  am very happy.  The speed of spinning is 850 RPM and that is enough because the drum is quite big. Probably equal with a smaller drum and 1200 RPM. 

And  I checked prices in Lazada for same machine and they wanted 18 690 baht. 

So far so good!

Good and that appears to be a newer model of inverter type and that you got it for a fair price - but it appears Lazada prices are from those trying to make a quick baht rather than make actual sales.  On Shopee it is 11,991 from a reliable seller (shipping would likely have made it about the same or more than you paid).

XJ650 Very glad someone was able to help you out. I and many others in my village have used the company due to B.I.L and as far as I know now down side at all. I looked your model up and am jealous or should I say envious, looks to be a great unit.

Thaweeyont - that is the name that appeared on my bank statement - is the company where we bought our washing machine, two fridges and a lot of smaller appliances. Good prices, good service.

I've had a small, 6.5 KG Toshiba top loading automatic washer for 10 years and only had to have one B300 repair in all that time.  Usually used 2 to 3 times per week.  Still sells for B6000, same as what I paid in 2010.

I realize the OP is looking for a larger size but I think it is a good endorsement of Toshiba washer build quality in general.

Does anyone have experience with a unit that can wash and dry? Have limited space but would like to have both.

Why would be the question - this is not the UK - the sun shines here most days.  Very few people have dryers much less combo units.  I would expect the unexpected if you put your money into such a unit here as would not expect any support parts or personal.  There are options for front loaders and dryer on top which might be easier to get support for.  But most people really prefer air drying clean smell rather than chemicals.

The sun is for free but you need to have space outside. In my condo the balconies are too small. Could hang it inside the condo. But with big bed linens it gets a problem. This with a separate dryer on top of the washing machine I had in Europe. But here I don't have so much space.

A viable alternative for most people is to have a service take care of such items - am sure there is such a facility at most condo units that will wash/dry/fold at a reasonable cost.  You may not need any washer.  Another factor is removal of hot air from any dryer process as condo may not be equipped for that.  Even a small balcony can dry a lot here, fast, if any direct sun.  Sorry do not know what machines are available as have never considered them.

I had my bad experience with such services. Some seem to save on washing powder. You will realize this after a while if you wash white things. Then I used one of the public washing machines - at the beginning with a lot of bleach to get everything white again. Great. But I get older and want to have more comfort. Gets on my nerves to go there two times - bring it there and pick it up after about an hour. They have a dryer there too. But you can't adjust the temperature. Too risky.

Front loaders can be wall mounted to save bending.

Front loaders are more gentle on clothes, use less water and soap additives,  than those hideous ones with large agitators, the ones with agitators built into the drum are better.

In HomePro I see machines that purport to wash and dry.  Are any of these worth considering?

Yesterday I saw one at Powerbuy for about 90k. I never saw anything like this in my life. More a computer. But I will check the internet if people have any good experience with such combinations - of course with cheaper ones.

The Japanese style top loaders have no agitators at all and are far better for clothing and spin almost dry - that is why Thai can change 2 or 3 times a day and almost never have to buy new.  You are thinking of the American type with center agitator, which are not common here at all.

I have a bog standard Thai twin tub. My daughters white school shirts come out spotless, and believe me she is very particular! My shirts are fine. Thai washing powders/liquids are formulated to work with cold water.

 

The "kind sht where have 2 chamber" work fine...
