It's hogwash. Buying time and trying to look like appeasement with the tourism industry. They're not interested in anyone coming in until they have a vaccine. I'm all for that but just come out  and and say it.

No flickking way will anyone, except those expats who have family come and subject themselves to an out of pocket cost nearing the 300,00 baht range, before they can even began to enjoy there time here.  Plus jumping through the hoops just to get approved.  God forbid you take time off from work to go to through the initial testing but then to be denied or accepted at the discretion of the Royal Thai Embassy in your home country is Ludicrous.

 

Additionally, what airlines are they going to be allowed to travel on or just specific chartered flights which will only fly on certain timeframes guaranteed by the Thai Government.  I personally do not know anyone who has all the free time in the world just to sit on there <deleted> and wait for a vacation that may or may not ever come.  Additionally, whose job will allow them to just take off whenever.

 

This appears to be aimed at those with unlimited funds and High Flyers who will just unfortunately go elsewhere to avoid the three ring Thai circus that this is becoming.

Very well articulated and sums up the situation perfectly. I have recently jumped through all of the above hoops to get back to Thailand on a state sanctioned repatriation flight and extortionate ASQ hotel booking in Bangkok (only the expensive hotels remaining) and currently in day 10 day of quarantine. The pre-requisite paperwork alone is quite stressful let alone the turmoil of state quarantine which does not allow alcohol to served!! I will then be flying home to Phuket early next week to see my wife and children after being stuck in the UK for 3 months. The prospect of anyone thinking of traveling to Phuket (especially those with young children) for a state sponsored 'penitentiary' style quarantine for 2 weeks (not to mention the invasive PCR tests) to then be allowed to travel within Phuket (no doubt tagged and surveilled) to 'enjoy' the rest of their already expensive holiday is preposterous!! Complete and utter Circus.....

I can only speak for me personally, but I would have no interest going on holiday to a country where I was confned to a hotel for 14 days. Just a waste of a holiday IMO. Also considering most working people have between 2 weeks and 1 month anual leave, I would be surprised it they would be interested in this deal also.

I did several holidays in a Caribbean resort where I was confined to an hotel eating like a pig from morning to night. But here in Thailand "all-inclusive" resorts are not that great (actually there are really few of them) and if I had to choose an holiday like that I would not come to Thailand for sure...many other better and cheaper options if one really needs an holiday like that..

I really do not think that Thais understand tourism - 99.999% of all travellers and tourists go to a country to see it and experience it - not to be locked up in it for 14 days.

COVID isn't an excuse for additional extortion from tourists, everyone knows what you're like, the world knows your reputation. If you really want tourists to return, stop the extortion. This isn't a chance for your pals in the insurance and health care business to make a bit of extra cash.

And, as we hear, as Phuket, Samui, Pattaya, etc., are all pretty well closed down: no bars/shops/restaurants open -- and many hotels closed down -- I wonder what would entice tourists to holiday in these resorts?

 

Perhaps the owners of the bars and restaurants will open up again ''in anticipation'' of the ''hoped for'' hordes???
