webfact Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 A special case or not? DSI board to decide whether to accept "Boss" investigation Picture: Daily News The chief of Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said yesterday that the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission had been in touch on Wednesday asking them to consider accepting the Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya case. Pol Lt-Col Korawat Panpraphakorn said that the board of the DSI will decide today whether the charges of reckless driving causing death and abuse of cocaine that have been levelled against the Red Bull scion fall into the category of "special case" or not. Korawat recognised that the case is of great public interest but the board's nod is needed before officers can proceed. The DSI are in possession of a report alleging mishandling of the case after a government fact finding committee investigated the matter. About 20 police may be investigated as part of the fallout from the case. The Boss case has been a national scandal in Thailand. In September 2012 he drove his Ferrari into Pol Sen Sgt Wichian Klanprasert who was riding a motorcycle dragging him along the road in the Thong Lo area of Bangkok. Delay after delay ensued until he reportedly fled abroad in 2017. Outrage and an official inquiry began after the public prosecutor decided to drop charges earlier this year. Two of those charges - namely reckless driving causing death and abuse of cocaine - have since been leveled against the grandson of the Red Bull founder. Immigration have promised to arrest him if he tries to re-enter Thailand. His whereabouts are unknown though over the years he has been pictured in London and on the Formula 1 racing circuit. Mishandling of the case would be a "special case" in any normal country, This, however, Is Thailand ! 14 1

Popular Post bangkokfrog Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 What a lot of twaddle. The DSI are most likely reluctant to accept the case because a full investigation means looking at far more than Boss's crimes and police actions... such as where did money come from for bribes and who owned / provided the plane that got him out of the country. If done properly this would lead to some pretty big (and in Thailand probably untouchable) heads rolling. 10 1
Popular Post Misterwhisper Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 What's to consider???? Why the dragging of feet (once again)??? --- A case mishandled and obfuscated from the start; --- 5 years of inactivity to ensure that some of the original charges expired; --- Filing of false reports, including the car's speed; --- Accepting flimsy excuses by the suspect's lawyer on multiple occasions why his client was unable to heed at least 8 summons; --- At least 20 police officers (and god knows how many others, including state officials) tampering with evidence or hindering proper investigation; --- The highly probable dispensing of generous "monetary gifts" to various parties in order to make the charges "go away"; --- Inexplicably permitting the suspect to travel abroad whenever he pleased; --- The utter unwillingness to involve Interpol in tracking down the suspect; --- The out-of-the-blue dismissal of all charges by a deputy state prosecutor; --- and, and, and... Now... if all of that doesn't qualify the case for special investigation, then what does? 12 4

Popular Post from the home of CC Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 this all revolves around on who will lose the biggest amount of face after exposure (the main recipient of the lions share of the bribe). if this individual still wields power (direct or indirectly) then this will remain in the shadows till he doesn't... 4

Popular Post holy cow cm Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 So what is anyone from the public going to do to the powers that order? That's correct nothing! That is unless like big fathead or little potato toad decide they want some credit for putting the elite little rich kid in prison. But then the time will go by and nothing happens and then the statute of limitations will pass again and once again little elite rich kid is free.. 3 1
Popular Post anchadian Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Korawat recognised that the case is of great public interest but the board's nod is needed before officers can refrain from playing with their mobiles. Popular Post overherebc Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Having read all the way through this thread ( and others on the same line ) I decided it was time to make up my mind and do something important. Popular Post JusticeGB Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Probably most of the police originally in the investigation have by now been promoted to the DSI so they don't want to investigate their own colleagues! 2 1

Pedrogaz Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 The other day Prayut said that we would learn the names of all the perps in the investigation. He didn't that for transparency say the names would be released....he said it would be impossible to keep them quiet. I thought it was an odd thing to say. Now I see that we have snail's pace back again so that every committee and its mother will have to give the green light after hermeneutically perusing the documents to find something trivial that wasn't done according to 'procedure'. It's not encouraging. 2
GinBoy2 Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Oh Dear Lord, yet another Boss thread. I predicted about 10 thousand threads ago, the only people who will suffer are like the Isaan servant already prosecuted for providing a false statement, will be some low level cops, maybe a few low level judiciary. But anyone really culpable, like the man himself, or his family for basically bribing officials and perversion of justice, they always knew they were free and clear. I'm sure there will be lots of the newbies outraged by this, but spend enough time in Thailand, and get used to it 1

Srikcir Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 DSI Board to decide? In July 2019 PM Prayut appointed himself to oversee DSI's handling of investigations. So I would expect the Board's priorities will be in line with Prayut's priorities. So it comes down to Prayut's potential vulnerabilities related to any investigation by DSI in the Boss matter, aka conflict of interest? Before the Board makes its decision, Prayut needs to rescind or recuse his oversight of DSI. Especially as Prayut had also assumed oversight of the National Police. 1
