Don't expect sympathy from an officer. They are shafted from one province to another on a whim. Absolutely awful job.

Sorry, but folks have had plenty of time to sort out there Visa statuses. There are many ways to stay in the country legally with extensions of stay and such. For those not married and under 50, or not on a Non Imm B with a WP who can not find a visa to stay I do have empathy for them.  I do understand even those married and who used the Non imm O with ME and border bounced every 90 days or who worked outside of the country may not have the money in the bank to stay, but what else can immigration do for you. It is their rules we live and die by here in this country, and even I know that I am possibly just 1 day away from having to move on. I however, accept those facts and have a Plan B and learned in life things are not always fair.

They will cease to be  Tourists.

They will be  classified as  over stayers.

Yes. I'm that nasty regular visitor the stays in Thailand too much and should be back home where I belong.

I am so glad you agree that you have been abusing the system and now that the unexpected has caught you and your ilk out I have no sympathy at all.

Good bye!

I've been here for years.  Anyhow, this Spring and Summer were not exactly a holiday.  It wasn't as survival-mode as other places, but this was not typical Thailand.  Almost nobody was really enjoying themselves for months, and now it's only semi-normal.

some people work for years, stop...and then they would have to leave as well.

in the long-run, i think it's always better in your home country.  Thailand is good for maybe 5 months a year and it's nice knowing you can leave and never come back.  home country for money, and Thailand for something different.

So you admit you are not a tourist but a regular visitor.

So a genuine "tourist' is someone who only ever visits once, then ?

Don't expect any sympathy from any retired folk or people with business's in LOS. The retired folks from UK basically have 20k gbp in the bank static and about 30k baht a month. Not a lot to even spit in let alone drain a lizard. The business owners are on their knees and will be for a very long. My comrades who fall between those cracks I salute you and say. The game changed so time to adapt but don't pay those pesky agents the light will shine once again for the masses that pump thailand with cash.

Yeah keep those confused emojis coming I'm looking for 50 from this post alone.

Nagging anti-Tourist expats on the visa forum make posting here an unpleasant experience at times.

"Takes one to know one" is the expression that first comes to mind followed by "when in a whole stop digging!" as a more appropriate one in your case.

I got my ticket weeks ago. I just don't understand why they're willing to part with us so easily given the circumstances and plummeting tourist numbers. I was planning to go back in July but my plans changed after I made them in January, when the world was a very different place. Many people have similar stories I'm sure.

You don't get it. Because now is not normal. That's the entire issue. Normally I go home no problem and come back when I want to. Not this time. Everything is different this time.

You are a tourist and nothing more. You have had a good run and it is time to go home. If you want to come back then get a visa fit for purpose.

Why should we feel sorry for you ?

"Foreigners in Thailand face fines and jail for overstaying as visa amnesty ends."

My guess is that this will border on sexual arousal for Thai Immigration.  Sorta like a pod of killer whales savaging a school of salmon.

And as Immigration is busy decimating future tourists with Thai compassion, TAT will be telling the world how wonderful Prathet Thai is and why everyone should book a room in one of their 14 day prisons.

It should be interesting to look back on all of this in about a year.

Nothing more to say on the topic. I'm going home and not coming back anytime soon. Thailand can now find ways to get more tourists. End of discussion. Good luck to everyone.

Serious? I can't find something that makes me happy about it. Would you say it to the Thai Person where he rented the apartment from? Or maybe the woman where he gets his daily groceries? Whatever... I'm out too.

'Why should we feel sorry for you?'

Let me paraphrase a saying of Kabir's, a 15th century Indian poet-saint. Kabir said 'He who can't feel another man's pain, he is the true infidel.'

I hope what I'm trying to say doesn't go over your head.

The Thais who lose their jobs will disagree with you.

That's how it feels to me also. This whole experience leaves me with a bad taste in mouth for Thailand. If I get CV-19 and fall seriously ill when I return back to the USA on the 24th I'm going to be pretty angry I can imagine. All because I "overstayed my welcome".

you wont get covid because of thailand, you'll get it because the usa is making a right hash of managing the pandemic...

We've taken in thousands of refugees from the region and surely would have done the same for Thailand.

That may have something to do with a little confrontation called the Vietnam War when the USA bombed the bejesus out of the region and destroyed vast parts of it. Not sure South East Asia should feel indebted to the USA over that.

150,000 Tourists staying in hotels, dining out every night, taking taxis, shopping, etc., are likely responsible for thousands of Thai jobs. When they leave, as you advocate, thousands of Thais in hotels, restaurants, bars, driving taxis, etc, are going to be laid off. They won't be able to cover their costs, maybe feed their children. Apparently compassion isn't your strong suit.

There is a gaggle of bitter old men trolling all the amnesty thread spewing out their own resentment and jealousy, adding zero value to the site, yet mods keep their comments up. Yes, mods will delete this, but NOTHING will take away the emptiness into which your life has sunk that leaves you with nothing positive to add and reeking of unhappiness and despair with your own declining existence. I suspect your screen name defines your day.

Yeah I'm not returning to Thailand ever, since being insulted by the deputy PM,

and a poll showing a high percentage of Thais dont want farangs in their country.
