Pattaya City planning to add another traffic/parking lane to Beach Road

Good idea. It was a great decision already when they added the 3rd lane some years ago... There needs to be a major highway in this area. There are no tourists anyway anymore and so there is a lot of unused space.

They let cars park on beach road during the drainage work...And things worked just fine with beach road only having 2 lanes......Beach road only had 2 lanes for decades and decades........Just go back to beach road being 2 lanes and there is your parking lane already built.....

So they want 1 lane for the bike rental guys next to the bars....

They want 3 lanes to drive on.....

And they want 1 lane for car parking.....

So they want 5 lanes in total.......Most major highways in cities don't have 5 lanes....

If another lane is added then there will be no more beach walkway in many places....

You really believe they think that far ahead? 555!

They did this some years ago, claiming it would help the traffic situation, which was complete BS as the traffic still all funneled back into 2 lanes at the Tai bend. The reality then was it could be better suited to the market events when they closed it off to traffic. So what will be sacrificed this time around, the promenade or will the beach be shortened? For sure pedestrians will not be accommodated in the usual kow-tow to the almighty car.

By the way, a traffic lane and parking lane are very much at odds with each other despite the title.

The mayor's always looking for something innovative and different, so why not build a completely new express road from North to South Pattaya, maybe with a T-junction at Central, out over the bay like they did in Chonburi City?  Then Beach Road would be freed up for local access, more parking and larger pedestrian areas.
