New Phangnga Airport and Rail Link

Featured Replies

Phangnga province government officials met on Monday (12/10/20) to prepare and develop proposals to present to PM Prayut for the new railway line from Surat Thani to Phangnga and the new Phangnga Airport.

Meetings are scheduled next month on the 2nd and 3rd (November) to push ahead with the long planned railway line which will run from the existing line in Surat Thani and run to Tha Nun in south-west Phangnga, 3 kilometers north of Sarasin Bridge, Phuket.

The new line will run adjacent to and provide a rail link to the new Phangnga Airport which will be located between Tha Nun and Nai Yong. (red) An additional rail line will run to Krabi from Muang Phangnga. (blue)

Solutions to develop the Phangnga city plan, water management and further ways to assist the economy of Phangnga were also discussed.

High efficiency rubbish separation and improved waste water management for tourist area Khao Lak is being developed and the Takua Pa hospital will be given an upgrade to better cater for tourists and hospitality workers and the operating hours will be extended. CCTV coverage will be extended to increase safety in tourist areas.

Work will also be done to continue widening selected roads to three lanes and reduce the sharpness of curves in high accidents spots to further improve road safety throughout Phangnga.

Some national parks fees in Phangnga will increase by 15% to generate revenue for further development.

The land allocation for the new Phangnga airport, scheduled to open in 2025, was finalized last year while the land for the railway was allocated 75 years ago in 1945.

The 158 kilometers of new track will help link west coast tourist areas, Phuket, Phangnga and Krabi to Surat Thani’s Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao in the Gulf, and beyond to Hua Hin and Bangkok.

An interesting first post in the Phuket general forum outlining major infrastructure proposals discussed in Phangnga meetings.

A rail link from near the Sarasin bridge to Bangkok would make a huge difference for many residents in both Provinces.. As would the opening of a much needed second airport in the area.

However, as these proposals are in the south of the country they will probably only receive lip service from the Chino-Thai government.

This video shows where all the stations will be located and gives a lot more detail. It is in Thai, but easy to follow.
