webfact Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Closure of Similan Islands leaves a large group of travellers devastated By The Nation The authorities’ recent decision to temporarily close Similan Islands due to storms, unpredictable weather and high waves has left a group of travellers heartbroken. The group comprising some 500 people learned at the Ban Thap Lamu Pier in Phang Nga’s Thai Muang district on Friday that their bookings for trips around the Similan archipelago had been cancelled. This group alone would have generated more than Bt120,000 in just entry fees. The Meteorological Department has warned that the southwest monsoon is hovering over the Andaman Sea and will bring continuous rain to the South. The stormy weather will also cause waves to rise as high as 3 metres, while fishermen have been advised to stay on land. Popular Post 2long Posted October 16, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 16, 2020 The Thai price is 100B to enter and 500B for foreigners. Then 200B/diving day. https://www.similandivingtours.com/blog/blogs/information/national-park-fees-for-scuba-diving-at-the-similan-islands The authorities didn't close the park for fun, but to ensure the safety of everyone in boats, including their own teams if they had to send out vessels to recover boats or save people in an accident. This happens every season at least once or twice, especially in October. 6

ChipButty Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Wise decision pretty wild down here at the moment 2

phantomfiddler Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 All the authorities talk about is how much money they are losing ! and how they only want tourists arriving with suitcases full of money. There is a trade, which Thailand is renowned for, in which money is the only requirement, and it is becoming more and more evident that the female sex is not the only one involved and guilty of plying this trade ???? 2
Deli Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Reopened yesterday at 15.00 hours. Funny wise... the weather is still the same ????
Elkski Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Those dive sites are remote. I would be devastated if my trip to dive there some day got canceled. Its the only good diving in Thailand I've heard.
