There will be no downside to Brexit, only considerable upside. David Davis   The day after we vote to leave we hold all the cards and can choose the path we want. Michael Gove

  • Why should the EU negotiate with an ex-member, that voted to leave ? They should let Britain stand outside in the cold for twenty or twenty-five years. Then maybe let them back in, if they ask nicely.

  • I see 20 weak  countries  bailed  out by a  very few stronger  ones, how do you see that

A shocking comment, perhaps prompted by your own similar experiences while sitting on the throne and flicking through The Guardian?

It is alarming that people who read this "newspaper" have the right to vote.

In fact, they should put people like this on an island and not let them go for the rest of their lives.

Brexit is not such a bad idea at all.

You should not be alarmed by now, you have known the result of the referendum for over four years now. People who read all kinds of UK newspapers had the right to vote and more of them decided to Leave the EU. Maybe it was their loathing of that failing bloc, or despising the Frenchies most, which swung the vote but we will be fully out of it very soon and with control of our fishing waters intact.

It's good that you are finally coming around to our idea, because island life is great.

A populist and very popular newspaper, with a circulation way more than the lefty liberal rags like the EU lovers Grauniad. Don't the Euros and Remainers just love to hate populist press and its' readers?

What's the matter in the EU now - lots of twitching round the rear end as the transition period ends and we are fully free without being tied to it all?

You're gonna be tied to the WTO. A step backwards from an FTA with the world's largest trading bloc on your doorstep.

We are not tied with all those FTAs streaming through the doors now.

We will still trade with that bloc, albeit with probable restrictions soon to be imposed by that bloc. They're not very good at free trading really are they, when only protectionism make their principle work for some of their member?

Fishing war: Brexit battle as FIVE EU states team up to force Boris U-turn

FIVE EU member states have banded together to call for the bloc's fishermen to be protected under a trade deal with the UK, as Michel Barnier and David Frost meet in London for talks.

Ireland, France, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands will “remain united” in their position that coastal communities across the continent must be protected under any post-Brexit free trade deal. Boats from the five nations have benefitted massively from fishing in Britain’s rich waters and as trade talks enter the final phase leaders are wary of losing access.

Well stuff happens. They might remain united but they will not be entitled. The Irish have plenty of water relative to the size of their population anyway.

Boris Johnson has clashed with Brussels over an 11th-hour attempt to save British passport holders from hours of delays at European airports from the end of the year.

The government is seeking continued use by UK nationals of the automatic e-gates used by EU nationals at airports and Eurostar terminals. The move is seen by the European commission as an attempt to keep Britons in faster lanes rather than having to queue up with the rest of the world after the end of the transition period.

A senior EU diplomat said: “Having grown up in Brussels, Boris Johnson values the ability to travel freely to the continent. So it is perfectly apt that the UK is now asking the EU to change its own laws to accommodate London on something it always had. We are probably in for another re-run of ‘the EU is being unfair’, ‘we’re only asking for a Canada-style deal’. It isn’t.”

You don't know yet that you will probably need a visa + proof of income of the last year  + health insurance + booked accommodation for the duration of your stay including proof of payment ?

One of the multitude of trade deals that would be easily rolled over. The UK was not in the EU/Japan for long enough to accumulate significant data so the government will capitalise on comparing it to what was rather than what they gave up, time will tell.

this matters now :

UK presses for use of faster passport gates at EU airports post-Brexit
Exclusive: European commission insists letting UK nationals use e-gates would breach EU law

On the matter of signing a treaty with party being a know liar, I found some more info.

So beside fish and level playing field there is this  third topic blocking a possible deal, it's called "Governance"

here is a the brexiter newspaper "the Torygraph" summary https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics...iations-going/

Quote

Governance

Where they started

The EU wanted the deals on fishing, trade, foreign policy and security cooperation covered by a single agreement and enforcement system. Future agreements could be plugged into this umbrella agreement and punitive measures could be taken across sectors if necessary.

Britain wanted a series of separate agreements with their own dispute resolution mechanisms and no cross-cutting. It said foreign policy cooperation didn’t need a new agreement.

Where they are going

The UK's Internal Market Bill, which breaks international law, has stiffened the EU’s resolve to secure a tough enforcement system.

Negotiations are expected to be difficult and detailed. The UK has warmed to the umbrella treaty but still wants fishing to be separate.

Britain has signalled a robust governance system is also in its interest, suggesting a deal could be closer.

Finally, there is the matter of governance, which is as important as it is technical. The EU says it needs a system where binding decisions can be swiftly made as to whether either party has breached the comprehensive free trade agreement. And there needs to be the power to hit the other side with a sanction in a part of the economy where it will hurt.

For the UK, this feels all too close to being an association agreement, the likes of which may be more suitable for a country seeking to be enveloped into the EU’s sphere rather than pushing away from it. A breach on issues of goods should be dealt with by a sanction within that chapter of the deal.
