Daily News reported that the remaining two people who were deemed to be high risk contacts of the French woman who had Covid-19 at a Koh Samui hospital have now tested negative.

Some 110 people were tested who came into close or reasonably near contact with the 57 year old woman.

Out of these 30 were deemed to be high risk. Two were family members, 12 were close on a flight and 14 were on the ground. All 28 of these had previously tested negative, said Dr Weerasak Lorthongkham director of Koh Samui Hospital.

Now the final two had similarly tested negative.

This followed negative tests on the other 80 lower risk people that were made up of 29 airport staff, 23 on the flight to and 28 medical personnel.

Daily News said that residents of Samui were spooked by the news that there was a positive case on the island. In their story they quoted one motorcycle taxi man called Sunthorn Muangnin, 65, as saying that there were now "virtually no tourists at all".

He said that he was lucky to make 200-300 baht a day now. He was of the opinion that tourists should not be allowed into as Covid-19 was not over.

"The hotels want their money," he said. "But us locals don't want them".

This is just nonsensical. Seeing as they would have us believe that incubation times in ASQ can be upwards of 10 days, what does it prove that they all test negative? Surely they all need to be tested again in a weeks time to be sure?

As always, we wouldn't expect any other result.

So far every positive infection inside Thailand has shown no other infections, miraculous.

A possible explanation for that: tests (on foreigners) in ASQs are accounting for a good proportion of total tests*, because relatively little other testing is being done.

*& therefore 'confirmed cases'.

All returning Thais are also tested. And more positive cases in them than in foreigners (there overall numbers are also higher, of course).

This is an excellent analysis of the Thai psyche and the Thai Covid-paranoia, by Jiraporn Laocharoenwong, Chulalongkorn University:

https://th.boell.org/en/2020/10/08/covid-19-health-borders-and-purity-thai-nation

The arcticle describes quite well what now is going on with this "French"-Thai-woman, and what is going on in the mind of the people on Koh Samui.

The article is worth to read as it helps to understand the Thai paranoia about Covid. It also explains well how even Thai citizens like migrant workers can become victims of the Thai xenophobia when the arrive back home from abroad. This is what's happening to this "French" Thai woman now.

Needless to say that this concept of protecting the "Purity of the Thai Nation" is boosted and misused as a political tool by the government since they closed the borders in March.

The only Thais who seem to contract Covid have been overseas mixing with dirty foreigners.

Those in Thailand are immune to catching it.

Still calling the Thai national married to a French guy a "French woman" because she is a dual citizen.   I bet if she received an honor like a Nobel Prize suddenly she would be a "Thai woman."  But having been infected with Covid she's a "French woman."
We get it.
