Tizer (One for the Brits).

One for us Brits.

Was in Tops yesterday and came across tins of Tizer. Not seen this since my long distant schooldays. Looks like it's been jazzed up for the modern day.

Bought one just for the memory. Memory playing tricks. Tastes disgusting. ???? Seem to remember it tasting better.

Now I just need to keep an eye open for Quality Street for Christmas.

  • Just remember, it's an anagram of "vomit"   All of the ingredients that made things taste good when we were kids are illegal now ????

  • There's none of this to be found in Thailand though....

I did , at a holiday camp in the mid '50s my dad bought us cream soda with a lump of vanilla ice cream in it.  Must have been god as I still remember it after about 65 years.

Another good one was VIMTO from Manchester. A V&V (Voddy & Vimto) was/is great.

Hi phetphet

Recently did the same with a can of Irn-Bru - not as I remember it at all!!!????

Quality Street from BIg C

And it has to be V & G...... Guinness with a dash of Vimto

By the time it has traveled here, then sat on a shelf awaiting a homesick Brit, it would not be surprising if it tasted differently.

At least Vegemite never changes.

I bought some Tizer online, tasted okay but not as I remembered it!

Now that brings back memories of my student days, when I shared a flat with a guy from Glasgow.

You can get Hero Boy Cream Soda syrup (or Tescos own). I found a bottle in the kitchen cupboard yesterday, been there for ages. It is now mixed with 5 litres of water, a bag of sugar, lemon juice and a packet of Champagne Yeast.

Nowt to lose by it. Will keep you informed.

My favourite ????

My favourite was Dandelion and Burdock. Tasted like Coke Cola with bitumen in it.

American Cream Soda was a favourite of mine. Couldn't wait for the pop man to come round every Friday teatime.

I remember Corona delivered in milk crates and was a fan of R-Whites Lemonade ... I wonder if operation yewtree ever got around to investigating the guy from the ads

My earliest memories of Tizer were walking back from the match at Leeds Road (Huddersfield). Passed an old broken down cottage and the old guy inside had set up a trestle table with dozens of plastic beakers filled with Tizer on it. 3d a beaker. Didn't sell anything but Tizer.

Never even saw a bottle of Coca Cola until I was 16.

What only last week!

I thought you was a man of the world!!

Irn Bru has had the sugar content reduced, so it no longer tastes like it did. Vimto is very popular in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan and it tastes much like I remember it. I haven’t tried Tizer for a very long time, and hardly ever see it. What about Tango, don’t see much of that either?

They don't even give you a penny back on the empty return bottle anymore.  I used to get into the Saturday morning Odeon flics with three of them!

Bloody Scottish skinflints!!

back in the day most pop bottles gave you money back for returns. Tuppence, I think. I used to scour the streets for them and take them back to the local newsagent. I remember nicking a few from the back yard of the shop and then go round the front for the money. Shopkeeper was onto us and wouldn't give us our money, so we kicked off until he threatened to call the police. Still have no idea how he sussed us.
