Tunnels allowed for Thailand’s first "animal crossing"

Widespread flooding in the districts of Wang Nam Khiaw and Thap Larn encouraged Thai media Daily News to remind Thais of the tunnels that now are a feature of the area.

They were part of a plan by the Highways Department to widen a 19 kilometer stretch of Route 304.

The tunnels connect Thailand Khao Yai and Thap Larn National Parks.

They were opened in March of last year.

The tunnels enabled what is known as an animal crossing in the parkland where there is a great deal of wildlife.

But while animals could pass overhead it was not the same for vehicular transport below - the heavy rains at the weekend saw to that.

Khao Yai was Thailand's first national park designated in 1962 and is the third largest in the country stretching over four provinces. Thap Larn was opened in 1981.

The incompetence metre doesn't have a reading for this one.

Where do they find these architects, engineers and contractors? Whose son designed this one?
