Tourists safe: Four crew taken to hospital after Similan tourist speedboat explodes in port

Four Thai crew members were treated for injuries and taken to Khao Lak medical center after a tourist speedboat used for trips to the Similan National Park exploded and caught fire yesterday morning.

Sanook reported that the captain of the boat had tried to start the engine ahead of taking tourists out to sea at the Thap Lamu pier in Phangnga province in the south of Thailand.

When the engine didn't start he instructed his four crew to give the engine a bit of a bang.

This resulted in an explosion and fire that soon engulfed the boat after starting in the rear.

Other boats were moved away to avoid the fire spreading and the speedboat was towed away.

The information came from Bunchu Phaeyai of the Phangnga fisheries department.

No tourists were injured.

Good god....imagine the carnage if the boat had been loaded to the gunwales with (Chinese) tourists.

What on earth do these things use as fuel, nitroglycerine?

They do seem to blow up with monotonous regularity.

actually saw similar. Sat on a regular Thai bus from Rayong to Bangkok, it stopped for fuel whereby the driver got out, put the hose in the tank and lit up!!!! ????
