This morning I thought I was coming down with a cold or flu, or even the dreaded C19, I felt lousy, very tired with a sore throat and aching muscles. I had a kip at lunchtime and felt a bit better for the rest, so I went for a quiet stroll down Jomtien way. I only live about 1,500 metres from Pattaya Park but could see the tower was looking murky and hazy. I know what that means, poor air quality, and it was confirmed when I got to the beach; Bang Saray and the hills down there had disappeared into the murk. The AQI was close close on 140 when I checked, which is enough to make me feel aware of it. I'm finding as the years go by that I'm becoming more and more sensitive to the AQI, I've no idea why. This is the earliest I've seen the lousy air quality start in Pattaya, anyway, are we really in for 3 or more months of breathing this rubbish?

Yep as soon as the "cool" weather appears  "everything" is burned    maybe its tradition or they are trying to keep warm ???? or crops have been harvested and they burn the stubble   when they could  turn it back into the soil and save money on buying fertiliser next year and save everyone dying from respiratory problems !!

yes, now, because nothing else left, they burned my money.:cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

Let's see we have this pollution looking stuff hanging in the air--but I smell no smoke or pollution yet it burns my eyes a bit.....Earlier this November the temperature felt cooler than it does now.....I am looking out my window now in Pattaya and seeing lightning flashes that light up the entire sky but I hear no thunder....

Nope......Nothing strange going on here......

Nobody knew where the smaze had come from

Honesty in the Thai media, whatever next, lol?

After the rain last night I thought we'd be back in the green this morning, but nope, the AQI is well over 100.

Frankly the vast majority would just like to be in Pattaya in the first place to experience the air quality.......

Today Friday December 11, 2020. the air pollution is really bad, unhealthy. Most of it is originating in Bangkok. At 15:45 Air Visual is reporting 154 US AQI, and and it's confirmed at https://www.ventusky.com/phatthaya

Yes yesterday it was already bad here in Pattaya

and today it's worse, with a thick pollution fog on all the area

Heck, and there was me thinking I could hardly see the Waterfront condo a click away because of the sea fog, surely the Thai authorities wouldn't have told us porkies about the air pollution, would they?

There is never a explanation where all this smaze comes from....It must come from those huge piles of sugarcane they burn on Walking Street every day....

I live outside of town a bit & there are a lot of small farms or houses with some crops & every single night except for when it rains heavy they have fires lite.

They seem to wait until the sun has settled then off they go.

The police do nothing, city hall do nothing.

I know a teacher at the local Thai school & one of their neighbours is often burning even during the day, she told me they asked him to stop & reported him so he stopped for a while & then started back up.

If you look at the ventusky.com map,  for Pattaya, 80% is coming from Bangkok not sugar cane burning.

Sugar cane on Walking Street where do you live?

yesterday was ok, but the previous days were horribles

the air pollution is a really concern now

a lot of the Thais don't seem to understand they are part of the problem

they keep to burn almost everything around me on a daily basis

(Mostly during saturday\sunday)

Look at the world map here...

https://www.ventusky.com/?p=12.21;101.76;7&l=pm25

Its a monstrous band of pollution that goes from Africa to India to SE Asia to China....Though its not a solid band, its a band never the less .....I really do not think they do much burning in North Africa or Bangkok for that matter......Whatever is going on I dont think has much to do with burning....

omg it's monstruous !!

Could it be a ''natural'' cause?

I can't see any industrial, road traffic or crop burning pollution in the Sahara

wich is one of the areas covered by this pollution cloud

I think in Africa it's sub saharan crop burning pollution etc.

A different problem than in Thailand, situated between India and China.

Please don't forget, it's winter and charcoal produces a lot of 'bad' air. Everywhere...

The AQI is bad and rising this morning, 170 an hour ago and over 180 now. Much higher and we'll be in the list of the top 10 most polluted cities in the world.

Way to go Thailand - not!
