PHUKET: More than 120 business operators in Phuket joined an seminar yesterday (Nov 18) held in the hope that they may share how they have so far managed to cope with the impact of the COVID economic crisis and its devastating effect on Phuket’s tourism-dependent economy.

The event, called “Restart Phuket 2020”, was organised by the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA).

Present for the official opening of the event held at The Pago Design Phuket hotel, off the bypass road in Rassada, were Phuket Vice Governor Vikrom Jakthee joined by ASA Deputy President Asst Prof PhD Ratthapong Angkasit and leading figures from the ASA Phuket chapter.

Only thing I can think of is to cut prices so low that it makes it worthwhile for visitors (internal and external) to jump through the hoops.

Has anyone seen any great deals yet?

Forget greed, charge much less for all rooms at hotels and charge less for food and beer.

Save money by not rehiring everyone, operate with a bare minimum of staff.

Only open 20% of businesses until tourism increases

If you do this, some domestic tourism will return, then later next year international tourism

If you cannot do this, do not re-open

Let's start with the basics... opening the boarders to people who want to spend

Or drop the prices so that domestic Thais are interested, or just wait for foreigners to fleece again?

What you are suggesting is exactly what is happening here at the moment. Hotel prices are extremely low right now and many places have offers on food and drink and no one is hiring unnecessarily.

There's a smattering of domestic tourism; I picked someone up at the Meridien today and the car park was pretty full. But it's a holiday and there's little business outside of holidays and weekends.
