webfact Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Northern Thailand: Crackdown on international drug kingpin Picture: Daily News Region 5 police, the military and other authorities reported on a ten day crackdown involving 1,000 cases and 361 million baht in asset seizures at the end of last month. The Lanna Dawn Raids centered around the district of Wiang Pa Pao, Chiang Rai. They followed the seizure of 2.8 million Ya Ba pills at a Lampang checkpoint in November of last year that led to arrest warrants of alleged international drug kingpin Wiwatchaiu, 36, his mother Phenporn and several associates who all went on the run. Two of the main asset seizures were done in Don Muang, Bangkok and Chiang Rai. In Don Muang 4 properties in the name of the kingpin's mother were searched in Viphawadee Rangsit Soi 41. Fifteen million baht in property was seized along with half a million baht in other assets. In Chiang Rai at a house in Wiang Pa Pao 20 million in assets were seized. The crackdown also involved asset seizures in hundreds of other cases. The report contained no news of any arrests.
