PHUKET: A Russian family in Cherng Talay are offering a reward for any information that leads to the safe return of their missing Afican wild cat “Julie”, a serval cat native to north Africa, which was last seen in the Surin Beach area on Saturday (Dec 5).

Local resident Aliona Lissone raised the alarm with a Facebook post in Russian language on Sunday, saying, “Please understand: a family member we love is lost.”

The cat, Julie, is one year old and has markings similar to a cheetah, Ms Lissone explained.

Exactly....why would anyone be even allowed to keep such an animal...so many reasons not to.

buy them easy in BKK.

Get me three!

It's not exactly a tiger or a lion though, is it - it's just a serval. They're not that unusual as a pet and not that massive.

Here's a picture of one with its owner.

It's a pet just like a domestic cat.

This serval is bred not caught wild.

No, they are usually not found in alleys. Nor do you find a Cheshire cat knocking around in large numbers.

It may also be a Bengal which sounds more likely. Yes, they are pricey but so are all pure bred cats. Btw, a serval is not so exotic, nor is it endangered.

It's not a bengal - for one thing, the owners identified it as a serval. Although that's not necessarily dispositive, just look at the photo in the OP - it's clearly a serval. A bengal cat has totally different markings (more like a leopard's) different-shaped ears and is much smaller.

Look at the picture of a bengal cat below and compare it to the picture of the lost pet in the OP - the differences are stark.

Possibly bred in captivity, and imported with relevant licencing.

Bet the local feline vet got a surprise when they took it for injections here
