I was bitten by an insect in Thailand and it left a scar that is itchy

Featured Replies

Hi, last time i was in thailand 2 years ago, i got bit by an insect under my belly botton, and i started noticing a red mark, that kept growing bigger, and all of a sudden it started hurting a lot, i could barely move, every time i had to do movement that made it move, the pain was unbearable.. So i went to the doctor and he prescribed me pain killers along with 2 other pills that i took, and it healed and i was cured.. But it left a scar that has been there for 2 years there, and sometimes its itching. The red mark/scar doesnt feel the same as my skin, so i assume the condition is still not cured, but looks like how it was since the start when i first got it. My doctor here in Europe dont know what it is so they dont know which pills to prescribe me, and in thailand i forgot the name of the pills that the doctors gave me.

Does any1 know what it could be?

No its not from me scratching as it only itchs 1-2 times a day, i have sent you some pictures of how it look like, its brownish/red

I doubt any pills will help you. Likely just scar tissue from original bite and scratching. No way an insect bite is still causing local irritation after 2 years.....see a dermatologist who can likely abrade it and get rid of the scar tissue

I went there, but they couldnt help and said that its going to stay permanent which i know cant be right since its still icthing which means it isnt cured yet.. The pills ive gotten from the doctor in thailand made it reduce the size as it became big and looked like a huge pimple, im sure if i had continued to take those pills it would have disappeared completely

what you need to do is remember the hospital that treated you and send a email to there help desk giving your name and approx. time you went to them for service and then they may refer you to the pill and what the dr thought it was at the time.

were you involved in any other activity in pattaya at that time that might possible lead to an itchy area like that ?

Possibly may be some toxin from the insect under the skin, or the "sting" from the insect may remain in the skin and scar tissue

No, i have been tested for STDs and everything. My doctor in europe thought it was a fungus infection, so she gave me some creame, but it didnt work so its not fungus either

I had something a bit above my navel that I figured was a spider bite. A few years went by and it didn't get worse but also never quite healed. Last year I had it checked out. It was a basal cell carcinoma and it was slowly drilling its way down towards the organs below. I should have paid more attention to the fact that the margins of the lesion were poorly defined and not smooth.

That said, scars don't always heal 100%, especially if they often get stretched (or just aggravated by a rough towel).

I'd look for a better dermatologist to provide a second opinion.

I was bitten by a spider on my penis during the night (yes of all the places) , I thought it was an STI so went to the Dr, straight away he said no and gave me these, it went away after a week, it's possible it might have gone anyway

that's an antibiotic. Helpful to fight or prevent secondary infection but not really treatment for insect bites.

I remember that the doctor in thailand, gave me antibiotics.. I just cant remember the name of it, but im 100% sure it was antibiotic medicine

OP,what you are doing sounds the right thing to do but in case you get no response you

should look for a specialist in your own country.

Every country has medical specialists who are well educated in foreign(tropical)conditions and

diseases.

Google is your friend.

There's a tiny tiny fly here, my local doctor calls it a night fly, you can hardly see it, it is so small. However the powder on it's wings is toxic, if you have accidentally brushed this on to your skin, it can end up with very extensive itching and I ended up with scarring like a bright red burn. The doctor gave me ointment which stopped the initial itching and eventually the redness settled down. However it does re-occur, this has been going on for about 7 years now and I probably get the symptoms about once a year, most unpleasant. Even when the itching goes away, I am left with permanent scarring. Incidentially, someone posting here is showing Cephalexin pills, these are most often prescribed for urinary tract infections, not insect issues.

I had a scar that still itches for decade,  but it is not from insects, and this is what I found. Might be the needle from a bie or such is still in the bite stung area? Should have come out in two years I would believe?

"How long does scar tissue itch?

Normal fine-line scars
This process can take up to 2 years. The scar will not disappear completely and you'll be left with a visible mark or line. Fine-line scars are common following a wound or after surgery. They are not usually painful, but they may be itchy for a few months."

Why does my scar itch months later?
When something injures your skin, your body's nerve endings can become damaged, too. The nerve endings can become very sensitive and cause itchy sensations as they start healing."

Several years ago I must have caught a bug of some sort in my motorcycle jacket as I got bitten riding home.

The place that was bitten still has a lump , my massage lady sometimes stops to look at it.

Just checked and still a lump , must have been quite a bug. On my upper back below right shoulder.

I am not in thailand at the moment, and all the dermatologists and doctors down here dont know what it is. If the issue wont be solved and i come back to thailand when its possible, i will for sure visit this dermatologist, thank you

I put "Dermovate" on those, only thing that works for me on the persistent ones...

Like someone said before, try to find a Dr specialized in tropical conditions - sooner the better to find the exact cause.
